Didn’t get as much as we had hoped done. The wife will just have to work harder tomorrow.
Locked up one of my DA sanders, tighter than a drum. Another one ordered, supposed to be here tomorrow. We will see.

Scraped the roof and got about half of it to bare metal. Mama got most of the right side done. We will have to throw it up in the lift to do the rockers. I’m too old and fat to be laying on the ground.

    Pulled the rear bumper also.

No, we are trying to get a lot of the bodywork done. I have to strip the firewall and paint it, so, it will have to come out eventually.

  10. Wow, surprisingly nice body panels. Let's hope once the rockers are necked there just as nice. Usually a repaint means they fixed all the ugly, can't say that about this one.

79BEE8BD-75A1-4E26-A146-2D8DDF2FB580.jpeg Day 3 Memorial Day: We had a short day today. Yesterday, I locked up my old DA sander and we have been waiting on a new one. It finally showed up just a few minutes ago.

Mama got the roof knocked out. We will go back over everything once we are in bare metal. I figure we can start at the front and work out way back, fixing all the dents.

This car was a Texas car and in Oklahoma and Texas we see our fair share of hail. I don’t generally worry until they start mentioning watermelon size. This one has seen a few. You can see them in the roof.

I went ahead and pulled the front valence panel off, so I could blast it. I’ll touch up the semi gloss black while it’s apart. Miss Lily is posing for y’all.

I saw a video somewhere, but with CRS I can't remember where, they used dry ice on hail dents that made them colder than the surrounding metal and they popped out pretty good with little persuasion and no warping. Maybe something on youtube.

Honestly, there was no filler in the roof, so they must have been able to be filled with just primer and paint. I'll spray a coat of primer and block it. See what it looks like.

Day 4 of the Memorial Day Thrash:
Things have gotten even deeper at the old Dust Bowl Speed Shop.

I am pretty sure that Mark Moriarity and the wife have been conspiring against me. She advised me that the car “has to be a two tone”.

Welp, then we need to pull the doors and get the jambs ready. It’s her car. This created a cart before the horse issue. We had to lay out the trim because we needed to figure out where to drill the holes for the new trim. She had decided on 1955 Pontiac Star Chief trim. We bought a set from a guy up north sight unseen. Supposed to be worked and ready to go. Not hardly. One piece was kinda wonky and requires a lot of straightening. I may have to search out a driver side hockey stick.

We taped it all in place and measured, then outlined it in sharpie. That way we could figure out where the center of the trim would fall. I’ll probably
End up making all the trim clips anyway. I drilled an 1/8” pilot hole just so we know where the lay out the two tone striping.

Here are a few pics, not a lot of visual progress.

Trying to remember how many extra teeth we bought. We are starting with an aftermarket grille. The goal is to find a good original and have it re-chromed as funds allow.

Sitting on the ground mid table. Are these the skirts you are looking for?

  30. 19 teeth is a good amount, lol. With any amount of extra teeth, you might want to build a brace that either hooks onto the center tooth and holds it up or add a steel brace along the width to hold the grille up as the extra weight will bend the bar down. When we got Taboo back the grill had drooped to sitting on the gravel shield and had twisted the bar at the ends from the unsupported weigh.
