  10. Since I have nothing new, I thought I'd post some drawings I'd been meaning to share for years. These two '57 Chevy pictures date back to 9th grade. this is the first cartoon, caricature I ever seriously attempted. The watercolor was a practice piece and one of my first of very few watercolor paintings.

... finally, this is slightly re'vised' based in a comment once made about putting a visor on a Deuce... I decided I wanted to see how it would look.

Once again, some more of my old art work.
COLOR stuff is old T-shirt art for our clubs annual car show. Most of it is drawn 4-color so it could be digitized for silk screen or transfer.
BLACK & WHITE stuff for Junkyard News which I co-pulished in the '80s,
Also some old car show flyer art. arc4.jpg 100_3531.jpg 100_3515.jpg

  14. Thanks Steve. I titled it "Vette Ray" It was the basis for the Buick concept cars I did The "Del Ray", same name as the '56 Chevy. Hey, Robber checked in today. He seems to have viewed last weeks show and dropped the index finger on loads of 'Likes". I DMed him. It sure is a reassuring thing to see him active here.

    @Spoggie The "Del Ray" redux

You're given a couple of tours through the vast and deep Valley of Darkness. Weeks later, by guiding light, you decamp the valley, in favor of a mountain. Knowing the mountain must be climbed to the top, you press on. Even with nothing, you know that you've got everything that you need. Reaching the summit, you can see for miles and what appears to be easier paths to trek. You press on. Perspectives are blurred and distances become greater than what they seemed. The word has been upon you for 40 days and nights when you finally see your goal on the horizon. Getting closer, you find that the finish itself is a formidable hurdle that must be cleared. You press on; you endure; you persevere! By amazing grace you achieve; you succeed; you thrive! Battle torn and journey worn... you never felt better! Humbly... you know that you were never alone!
My whole-souled gratitude to the kind spirits that have been concerned about me and who have wished me well.
A deadset thanks to Spoggie and Jigger, for keeping me visible, when I was cactus... :)

   ...and one more for @41 GMC K-18...
Knocked off the 70s rubber and rims, Chop, ditch the snap boxcover. I often question Period and as 41 alluded one of the Ratfink Era Builders could have dreamed something like this up in 60/65 especially with the Racing evolving with low slung fat tired Roundy Rounds...

Perfect street transportation and/or tow vehicle for daily driving.

    Hello,

Over the years, we have had several daily drivers that just were so reliable that no car repairs were necessary for almost two years. It was start up and drive, without a care in the world about glitches or unusual stops. The long road trips never looked so inviting.

But, in the early days, there was always the “chill down the back” feeling that when we turned the key in the ignition, it would go click, click and not start. Anxiety was the mode of the day, late for school, dates, football games, surf movies, etc. all played their parts in the “old car” episodes. It was a common notion to say, “My car would not start, or something was wrong with my car…”

My brother and I had a 1955 Chevy and a 1956 Chevy station wagon picked out for our final tow car back to Detroit for the U.S. Nationals in 1960. A small block v8, auto trans, and A/C for pure comfort driving. It was to tow our 1940 Willys Coupe with the 671 SBC motor for C/Gas class racing.

Over the years since those midnight conversations about what our tow car would look like, there have been many versions tossed around. Plus, the added value would have been a cool 55 or 56 2 door Chevy wagon to drive on our surf trips up and down the So Cal coastline.

Station wagons have always played some part of our teenage lives. Our friends had several different models when we all got together in the shoreline parking lots down the coast. It was fun, as most were ordinary station wagons with nothing done to them except for surf racks and gas in the tank. A 51 Plymouth wagon, a 56 Chevy wagon, and even a 57 Ford 2 door wagon were among our friends’ basic surf transportation. The only real modification was the ever present curtains to cover the windows all around, to afford some privacy when sleeping in the back.

As long as we were teenage beach/hot rod kids, we had an interest in things that go fast and were reliable. Our drag racing/hot rod history had lots of ups and downs. If we were able to get into the 1964-65 years, our Willys would have been a different color the modifications a little better and faster. So, the tow vehicle would have been a 2 door 1965 Chevelle Station Wagon for the trip back to the U.S. Nationals. A/C and all, towing the Willys Coupe across the USA.
    upload_2020-5-22_4-58-50.png
But for all of the station wagons we liked for our surf adventures, a nice 1955 Chevy two door would also be in the picture. One, we would have to do some upgrading and modifications. Two, the 65 would have had it all done for us from the factory, unless we wanted a big V8, 4 speed, A/C, and bucket seats like the SS version. Other than those, the two station wagons would have served a dual purpose in our lives. Coastal surf trips all up and down the shoreline in So Cal, some trips to Baja California, and daily driving to school/ jobs.

These days, the boards would fit comfortably inside of any station wagon, board bag and all accessories. So, no more surf rack noise, flapping towels/wetsuits, and poor wind resistance. Better ride, comfort, space, safety, handling, all necessary for the modern road trips and of course, A/C for the newbies. Why a tow hitch on both vehicles?

In the 1958 Impala during our 1940 Willys Coupe towing days, we had one installed. It was a rear end life saver in many situations, cruising, parking in parallel and drive-in parking lots. It is the first thing anyone hits and gets impaled while doing it. Also, a tow hitch is always handy for just about anything, like an Airstream Trailer or open trailer runs to the local trash dump sites.

  27. Had B-Scott do some t-shirt artwork this week featuring one of my kids pickups that will be his daily driver later this year when he turns 16. Now, I just need to make the real truck look more like the art...
