I have a 1935 Ford 5 window deluxe with a SBC 350 out of a 73 vette. I'm at the point where everything is in but i cant find a header application that works. my main problem is finding something that will clear the steering box, and the clutch linkage . i want to run them outside the frame and under my running boards, but I am also running into an issue with the wheels getting too close for comfort to the pipes. has anyone had any luck with the patriot tight tuck headers h8052? or would it be better to go with a ram horn manifold, or a different type of header all together?

  2. Just a thought, in the mid to late 70"s Chevy went to a below the spark plug rear dump exhaust manifold. It may clear your box.If not get a passenger side, and mount it on the drivers side. Now you have a front dump. The 55-56 Chevy log manifolds might be a problem solver, but they dont flow as well.

I hade a 35 with a 350 SBC and couldn't get rams horn manifolds to fit so went with the shorty headers. That was some time ago and I don't recall what brand the headers are. What I recall was that they were easy to install and cleared everything.

I used #5250 fender well headers from S&S , now out of business. They worked out great and the exhaust ran under the boards and exited ahead of the rear tires, no interference with the front tires at all. Pay no attention to the tires, wheels or valve covers etc ! I used a hurst front mount, but you have to use electric fuel pump if you do, and hooker block huggers fit nice and clear steering box. You have to weld up the rest to get exhaust to clear pitman arm and starter. Again, in my 40. Not sure how that crosses to your project.

Many a '35-'40 Ford fitted with a SBC has run the '55-'56 exhaust manifolds. Unless you're going to be doing a lot of high rpm drag racing, they flow plenty well. I run a 350 with M-20 Muncie in my Nomad with stock exhaust manifolds and I am happy with the car's performance.

Mitch i think im going to try the fender well headers from your pictures the should look the same on my 35. i looked them up and it seems like most of the rodder websites sell them. did you have any clearance issues when you put the fenders on?

thanks guys the insight! has anyone had any real trouble with the header flange warping with a .31" flange?

  10. With a stock steering box, most I've seen run the 265 manifolds.

  12. Mumbles, I had to cut out a portion of the inner fender but that’s it. I heat wrapped the exhaust so the boards didn’t get too hot , never had an issue. I have no idea about how other company’s fender wells fit. I googled S&S and they went under a while ago, I bought my headers in around 94. Mitch

I used the same fenderwell headers from Patriot, and were very happy with them. My application was a SBC in a 1946 Chevy coupe. The fit perfect with no trimming anywhere. I ran them with the Patriot 60" side pipes that have
the self-contained mufflers inside. Very happy and they were very reasonably priced I felt. Bob

I used this kit, it allows you to prefit and move tubes / collectors around for fine tuning to suit your space requirements. I added a small scallop to rear of collector for additional steering shaft clearance.

  15. Where’s that kit from ?

  16. Get a Ram Horn passenger side header for a '68-'72 Chevy pickup. You can get re-pops on Speedway. It turns back, so when you put it on the drivers side it point to the front. You just loop the exhaust pipe around the steering box. Learned this from an older hot rodder who built '40 Fords years ago. Hope this helps.

68-72 manifold is what Chassis engineering had for a recommendation for their abc motor mounts on a 35-40 Ford

It's from HPC down here in Australia, a lot better with the flat collector than the normal 4 pipe collector

  20. Oh yeah the flat 4 fits in some places a 2x2 configuration won’t. Vice versa as well but it’s nice to have the option

  22. I used Hedman tight tubes on a project with steering interference . They worked great.
they looked like the ones pictured by MGTSTUMPY.
