Well, I got laid off on Friday, isn't this fun times? So after trying to process the situation, I decided to go to the garage and get $hit done. I hope this helps someone out there trying to figure this out. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I decided to lay everything out using yardsticks as it would be close to the stock I was using anyway. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I then transfer the measurements and angles to the stock. I didn't need to use square stock because the 56 Windsor grille bar is very light. I utilized the bolt holes on the apron near the air intakes. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I test fit the Windsor grille bar to the horizontal mount to make sure I got the right pitch, then I tacked it into place. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Here's what the completed mount looks like. I used Krylon Matte black w/all in one primer, which I was very impressed with. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Because of the angle of the arms, extending from the bottom up, they are hardly visible giving a very convincing floating effect. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm either going to make black perforated sheet metal covers over the intakes or paint them. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The floating grille looks great. Paint your intake ports semi gloss black and they will blend right in, someone will have to look for them to see them. Gene
Nice work! Yeah - blacking out the background really helps the floating effect. (I painted a bit of the lower valence too following the curve of the opening.) I also put a dogleg angle iron upright centre support behind the grille bar, painted satin black to lose it in the shadows, as I was concerned about the slam panel. Without support would it flex when you shut the hood? I also put a safety chain on as I lost the hook bit.
Nice work on that setup. Make sure that you post some after the satin black shots. I'd still put screens over the openings just to keep critters out if for no other reason.
