Got some more done. Figured out the parking brake cable install today. Had to modify the Ford e-brake spring to compensate for the Lokar cable! Now comes the routing into the cabin and finally to the handle. There’s not much distance between the cable on the backing plate and the handle mount! I need to know how tight a radius I can curve the cable housing?

 

Finished up the rear brakes and installed the aft quick change gears. Love the machine work and simplicity of the quick change. Need to figure out a breather system next. Added some lube, but decided to wait in case I bore and tap the aft case for said breather. Time to route and connect the e brake cables!

 

Got the OK from the boss to get some parts!! I have a 58’ Chevy truck bell housing starter mounts to bell and a Super T10 trans. Trying to pick a clutch/flywheel combo. First question what’s a good weight flywheel for my little coupe, probably won’t weigh in at 2500lbs, and a quick change? Next what’s a good clutch for street? I am interested in a 10.5”, diaphragm style unit, and will use a hydraulic throw out bearing. My T10 has a 3.42 first, not the strongest but should work in a light weight coupe. Any advice? Wow, 3 days and no opinions? WTF

 

Got creative with the fill port on my QC. Used brass tubing, breather goes on top, but you can remove that and use it as a fill port. Once filled you can remove the side plug, and let it drain to the proper level. Close it up and away you go! Only issue is it takes awhile to fill without another vent. I will install a vent on an axle tube on the bell flange near the top. Two vents shouldn’t hurt?

 

Fabricated an e-brake bracket, and wood stand off brackets. The wood will be glassed in and studs installed for the cable clamps.

 

Been awhile, House finished, C of O in hand, insurance updated, outside finished, and got our money back from the POA. Started on the hood, installed welt on firewall, no problem. Switched to radiator cover, not so good. Seems they didn’t run the welt channel far enough. Lucky I have a bead roller just that size. I will take the cover off and make the adjustments.

 

I like the way the headers fit, were they out of the box fit?

 

Yep, I got them from Speedway, nice thick flange too!

I skimmed through their site, couldn't fine one that looked exactly like yours. Do the collectors come out parallel to the ground?

 

930C32 or 930C32H are the Speedway part numbers. First number is a raw metal set and the second set is coated. Fit and finish are great. They are 1.5 “ tubes and a 2.5” collector, not the best for performance but ok for a 300 horse street rod. The scale size installed makes them look bigger, in a 57 Chevy they would look small! Oh yeah, you can’t run the old Chevy metal canister filter housing, I tried!! Steering clearance is ample too!

 

Thanks for the pics! I have Vette 2.5 manifolds mocked up now with side motor mounts. Really tight around the vega box.

Got a lot accomplished today, figured out body issues, got radiator cover figured out, cut hammer welt area, when happy needs welding. Mounted radiator 1/2 “ higher, found error body contour in front of door. Now body lines are much better. Redid forward floorboard from one piece to two pieces. Picked up 2” more legroom, that’s a good thing, I am 6’3”.

 

Got a few more brackets from UPAC installed. Really stiffens up the body! Next the throttle and dash with gauges!

 

It’s been awhile! Still working on the master bath, however I am back on the coupe as of yesterday! Ordered some fuel system parts. Big issue is parking brake cable routing from the backing plate to the handle mounted between the seats. Rear is not that far aft of the handle mount! Exhaust gets in the road. I’m using Lokar cables and handle. Made a good strong mounting bracket for the handle, in fact it’s welded to the frame! Any ideas on the cable routing?

 

Try making up some hooks that will hold the cable off the exhaust pipes. Have to be fairly substantial, much like you'd see on an early Camaro, Chevelle, etc.

 

Would they be isolated or directly mount to frame?

Direct mount the the chassis ,but attached so they have some movement. These are for a 64 - ? Chevelle

 

Those might work, I don’t have a lot of steel cross members between the rear and the handle! But I can fab up something! Thanks for the help!

 

When I put the highly OT Corvette IRS in my slightly OT 67 Nova I had to get creative on my cable routing, needed to make a couple of turns, ended up using some patio door bearings on home brewed brackets for the turns and a combination of OEM style rear fitted cable sections and some leftover short Lokar casings/cables.
Found these handy cable connectors at HF.

Since then I spotted this on Amazon, would make a neat R/L splitter.

 

I should have added that the bearings were used on the uncased sections of cable.

Purchased some pre bent fuel lines and started on the fuel system! Pump should be here tomorrow! I am considering the Nicopp tubing for the line from the tank to the pump! Had to buy a single piston adjustable indexing chrome (yuck) pump! Plan on taking that pump apart and make a trip to the glass bead cabinet!!! Couldn’t find a pump that it’s inlet and outlet cleared everything! Anybody recommend an inline fuel filter?

 

I used a GM filter off a 98 to 2005 Chevy pickup(many other applications) part GF652. I like it cause it is hard lined in place. Need to a couple line repair kit for the o-ringed line ends.

 

I have been planning to install one like that somewhere under the car, and hard plumbed also! Like that install!! Thanks!

 

Got some work done today. Modified the intake, drilled and installed a 1957 Chevy truck oil inlet tube and drilled and tapped a hole behind the carb for a vacuum source for the PCV system! All by hand, fun! Next is the parking brake cable routing and install.

 

Not sure if you already plan to run some kind of a baffle inside the intake, but it will suck the oil right out of the engine of you don't. "Been there, done that".

 

I plan on running a windage tray in the lifter area and a small baffle under the hole! I hope that will work? Thanks for the advice!!!
