I was looking through my pics and saw this shot of my old Galaxie 500. Fresh out of barn storage. No interior. Three speed overdrive, 390 with a 361 truck crank. The boxtop in the background was my daily. I had a '63 Galaxie Country Sedan that was my parts chaser. Good times. Sent from my LM-X420 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My favorite full sized Ford. Even the four doors look cool. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I may be heavy into '63 T-birds, but I started out with a black/red cloth interior box-top 500 in '79 that got the "XL clone" treatment by me - literally drove it into the ground for work and college by the end of the '80s, and even replaced it with a 4-door XL for a few years before letting it go. Still want another XL with a 390 or bigger - SportsRoof or Convertible, though I don't know that I want a black car again.
Told this before, but one of my late Uncles had a 63 1/2 fastback, 390 3 speed, red inside and out. I loved that car! He sold it to his brother, his brother sold it to his brother in law [his wife's brother], who, later became my brother in law too [he married my wife's sister], for a while, he drove it a while and sold it and I lost track of it. He couldn't remember who he sold it to, or where they were from, I wish I could find it! Both my Uncle and his brother have passed on, my wife's sister divorced the scumbag that sold the car I have wanted since I was 8 years old! Every time I see a red 63 1/2, I have to look and see if it might by chance be my Uncle's old car. Never found another just like it, his was red bench seat 3 on the tree, most I find are either buckets or automatics. Maybe one day I'll find it again...
Still have my white '63-1/2 500, these 31 years. Have many restoration pieces, just too many hot rod projects. (some '27 T's...) The 406 I was building will now go into my '54 Ford Coupe, with heavy duty 3 speed, w/Jeep tower, ("REAL" floor shift!) Zowie, huh? Woulda really been cool in the '60s...Still, a tire smokin' '54 Coupe might get some...respect...
My Uncle Bob bought a 63&1/2 Rootbeer metallic , I will always remember the new car smell , 390 . fast fun car .
Raced a 63&1/2, 390 4sp back in the day. Ran consistent low 13's. Fun car. Have a 61 Starliner now 406 4sp. Best of both worlds.
