4B9EB7C8-B9E1-4E45-80C6-038297030797.jpeg The history on the 40 Chevrolet was in the closed section of this thread along with many photos of the work. One year ago we uncovered it from storage and my son started its come back to the street. Originally made a drag race gasser in the early 60’s by Noel Melovich and Blair’s speed shop; I purchased the car in 1974 to go Land Speed Racing using a 302 GMC 6. It set many records at Bonneville and El Mirage and raced at the Antique National Drags and Fremont Street Rod and Yesteryear Drags. It’s fastest speed was in LSR was 151+ and at the drags, 13.04 at 105 all with a carbureted gasoline GMC 6. Today it drove out of my sons garage and ready to get licensed. There are some videos on Facebook.

KIMG0175.JPG Mounted body panels to get some measurements and to figure out running boards. Felt good to roll it out into the sunlight for a change. View attachment 4686887 I

Today I sat with my finger elevated, because yesterday I learned what happens when you let your finger slip inside a roots supercharger, while you are timing it.

Reversed a '79 F150 steering box. Got it right the first time. Decided to go with cowl steering on my T.

Roughed in some pine "running boards" to get some idea of "things". I'm thinking oak running boards with a steel radiused edge (think 2.5 "split exhaust pipe tubing).
Going to try to keep this HAMB appropriate so consider this a "safety tip".
The last last 2 days the cats have been banging around in the cab.
Today I heard a chittering while the cats were up in the cab.
In short there was a mink under the seat in the truck. Don't know if they brought it in to "play" later like they have with other things.
I had to remove the seat and set it outside before it would leave.
In know, pics or it didn't happen. KIMG0186.JPG KIMG0185.JPG

Put some shiny rims on one side to see if I like it. I don't know, this whole shiny thing is new to me. But I'll tell ya, I drove it around the neighborhood and sure got a lot of smiles and waves. If this keeps up I may have to take a bath.

Sanded down the roof wood strips, and recoated with 50/50 linseed oil & turpentine. The wood soaked it all up almost as quick as I put it on. 20200516_160415.jpg 20200516_165715_HDR.jpg

  21. Moved the body off the hoist and brought in the chassis to start fitting the running gear. Yesterday was beautiful here so I made a trip to the junk yard to look for wheels, was trying to find late sixtys MOPAR 15X6s. Found two usable ones, they are getting scarce around here.

Went junkyarding and picked up a 41 Ford Pickup hood and stainless windshield divider. Gotta go back for the bumper brackets.

Worked on another 6-71, but found something weird.

I got all of my clearances good, except for one rotor lobe. It was a little tighter.

I did not have time to check to see of one was looser, though. I may have to pull it apart, and try that rotor in the other two possible positions.

    First time I've seen this.

Thanks Bob. Well that's an interesting question. Yes that is a stock bed, for a 1940 Bantam pickup, one year only. The beds for 1938-9 (mine is a '38) is basically a square box. Mine was in rough shape, I was wondering what to do about it when out of the blue Hamber RG171352, who deals in Bantam stuff, contacted me to offer a 1940 bed he had. No brainer there. Of the 580 American Bantam pickups made only 115 were 1940s, pretty rare find. I did replace the fenders with cut down Model A's instead of radiusing the originals.

The drip rails are '31 Oakland btw. ;)

Here's a photo of my truck with the original bed. And the one from RG.

  29. 20200517_131059.jpg Bodywork, glass work, assembly work, and thinking about putting my hubs on my car. Sorry if I was "stupid" as someone said about the other thread, guess i misunderstood when i seen the things that the veterans of the hamb was posting. My mistake ;) lost my locking strip tool, think i left it on a mobile job, in a pinch, just make one from a sawzall blade :D 20200517_094935.jpg 20200517_094754.jpg 20200517_094831.jpg 20200517_094901.jpg 20200517_094954.jpg
