In the first two photos, the bikes at the front left are Mattel Chopcycles, motorized with rechargeable batteries that run on Sizzlers tracks. Front right are Mattel RRRumblers, non motorised for use on Hot Wheels tracks, with the snap-on frames with small wheels you can see under the trike with the guy in blue, with a top hat.(The only toy on this shelf I got when I was a kid.) The big Harley at the back is the last model I put together. The next three photos are Hot Wheels red lines, and the last two are Sizzlers, some waiting for parts. Most have been rechromed because the batteries leak when they get old, and dissolve the chrome.Same with the Chopcycles.( not real chrome, whatever they use on plastic models and toys) 043.JPG 044.JPG 045.JPG 046.JPG 047.JPG 048.JPG 051.JPG

Picked up a bag of parts at a garage sale. Most of them appeared to be from a Tonka Hot Rod. I was unable to find information or images for this specific Tonka car to see what may be missing. Spent some time to clean it up, gave it a little paint detail, narrowed the front axle, made my own windshield frame and top design.

  14. A good friend of mine stopped by the other day and presented me with this little gem.He bought it at a yard sale in Upper Michigan. It is made from parts of musical instruments and other sundry items. There is a small hand lettered sign hanging on the side that reads,"Scrapture by Carl" and written on the other side in ink:"Dick Carl 2000".
I tried Googling the name and came up with a similar art piece on a site called,"Everything But The House"that sold back in 2016 for $91.It did not however have any information on the artist.
If anyone on here knows who Dick Carl is(or was) I would greatly appreciate any information. The last picture is the one from the auction site. I had 2 Saunders plastic friction Hot Rods from the 50's. One of them was cracked, missing some parts and destined for going into a parts box. After returning from a trip to Florida, our State says I have to be quarantined for 4 days before I can go get a Covid test, so I decided to pass the time and restore the broken Hot Rod.
A little epoxy repair, some body filler, lots of sanding, a new paint job and a couple carbs to replace the broken parts on the motor turned this into a nice piece for my collection.

Nice job RAYMAy, I have a good red one and a battered green one - you have given me food for thought here!

  23. Scott, I really love this. I think this model is an Ace Model Shop Hot Rod A-V-8 balsa wood roadster kit.

I have one still in the box, it could be fitted with a co2 cartridge or built as a model.
Here's a pic of mine with the instruction sheet.

Very cool, I bought a few balsa wood models from an Indian reservation in Arizona, I will post more as I get them displayed..

I thought I knew my toy hot rods but I have never seen any of these in over forty years of collecting. Are any of them Zylmex or Zeetoys by any chance?
    Cheers

Just doing this post as a trial, my first go at posting pictures on the HAMB. Been lurking for years but time to join the fun!

I have a collection of nearly fifty hot rods based on the original three Tonka Model A hot rods. Currently have them displayed in a Marx service station. Hope the pics work IMG_6985.JPG IMG_6988.JPG IMG_6985.JPG .
    Cheers
