  1. Hey Gang! Let's get it started!

I started this one a week ago but bailed on it because my proportions on the car body were a joke. Rebooted it today and got much preferred results. I added a distraction just in case the mistakes are glaring...

work in progress.... Had hoped to finish today:

    from Sparks, NV

Landrum’s, a Reno, NV icon from 1947 to 1986, open 24 hours a day, was a popular late night spot to eat. Originally billed as “Landrum’s Hamburger System Number 1”, it never got beyond the original operation. The seven seat Valentine Steel building is again a food facility after going through several different iterations, back to serving burgers as intended. Illustrated here in its mid-1960s motif.

“NHRA B/FX competition, where entries had to carry 9.0 to 12.99 pounds per cubic inch. By contrast, the A/FX weight break was 0 to 8.99 pounds per cubic inch, and C/FX was for cars with 13.0-plus pounds per cubic inch.”

“The 289 powered B/FX Comets were prepared for Mercury by Bill Stroppe Engineering, Long Beach, CA. The NHRA Factory Experimental class of 1962–1966 fostered incredible innovation (and some amusing lip service to Wally Park’s rule book). While “stock” class Max Wedge and Race Hemi vehicles had to be available (in modest numbers) to the Average Joe, FX rules invited one-off mixing and matching of engines, suspension components, and vehicles as long as the items were from the same manufacturer’s parts bins. It truly was a playground for factory performance engineers.”

    Hello,

We have all been aware of Jack Chrisman’s A/FX Comet sedan from the early 60’s. Here is the baby brother (Cousin, actually) that can run in the B/FX class. It has all of the local sponsors that would/could have been on the 1960-63 Falcon Ranchero. It comes equipped with a supercharged 427 Ford big block or a pushed to the limits 289 block.

These so called “factory parts” builds pushed the limits of what could be done with stuff from the stock parts bin. Despite the fact that the stock parts bin was regulated to those with factory ties and were usually, well known drag racers.

What about the backyard guys with dreams of being drag racers, with what limited budgets were around back then? Could they also be in the FX game at the local dragstrips? Even with friends who worked in the parts departments of the local Chevy and Ford dealers?

Here is one version of a B/FX Ford Falcon Ranchero built from the ground up, to roll with the big guys. Smoke producing power and all…

My daughter-in-law, a third grade teacher in a depressed school district,
was a recipient of one of Jokem59's writing utensil care packages. The
kids were both thrilled and appreciative. It was a great gesture on Joe's part.
