Rootie, this looks like a Championship car; probably late '40s/early '50s. Is there any identification on this one? If I had to bet I'd say someone updated a pre-war rail frame car. Thanks!
I don't have any info on the car but the shot was taken at Syracuse in the late 40s. The best I came up with is it may be the Scopa spl. Here's a shot of the car a couple of years later with updates (?)
Could there be similar looking but different cars involved? The reason I ask is that it looks like the car in your first photo (at Syracuse) looks to be #83. If so that is listed as a Buster Warke car at Syracuse in both 1950 (Bill Schindler missed the show) and in 1951 (Hinnershitz qualified but went out early). But also in 1951 Joe Scopa's #58 car in your other photo was a DNQ at Indianapolis with Frank Armi driving. The Warke car is listed as a Kurtis-Warke and the Scopa car is a "Scopa". Sometimes I get completely confused trying to trace some of these cars in the old photos. Thanks as always!
You're probably right, it was just a halfassed guess on my part. I agree it can get pretty complicated researching 70 y.o. photos and often unreliable stats.
