Doing a 1955 ford 2 dr MILD CUSTOM for a young customer.this is a stalled project of 9 years ago, brought to me to "make it happen". And so a 56 lincoln rear bumper was provided. I will attempt to complete the vision of the owner... The "lumps"on qtrs will be first to go. Then narrow bumper and install..then the fun begins..im looking to.make it all FLOW...do you guys have any ideas to share..or pics would be cool..
It doesn't seem to flow with the body lines, could the fins be widened to eliminate the rounded bulge? HRP
I'm removing those tumors firstly, that will give me a fresh look at what it wants..it's hard to get around those lumps.. Sent from my SM-T560NU using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What tail-lights is he considering? Packard. Chrysler? That would determine how the quarters need to be shaped. Looks like he was going to go with '56 Packard.?
I recieved the car as you see it...previous shop that was doing work closed,so after 9 yrs on hold the owner has brought it to me...the lenses he has are repro packards.
That’s a 1955 Lincoln bumper, but a good choice. 56 had the exhaust thru the bumper and a different shape.
I always have liked how Eunice Ibarra handled the "lumps" on her 1955 which kept a hint of the original body lines.
It looks like you are headed in the right direction although I for one an getting pretty tired of the Packard tail lights used on every thing from a 53 Buick to an Edsel. Kind of like 59 Caddy tail lights on at least half the custom cars you see. Just my two cents, not trying to piss any one off
Hey guys thanks for the comments..i am a custom guy, since 1982 when i jumped from the 53-56 f100 scene. Being 60 yrs on this planet i to have seen many uses of thr taillights you mention, but it depends how they are installed. I was taught by a relative who taught me the "old school" way of customizing. I dont have many of the nice tools that shops do, but i get the job done. As for the mentioned lenses, there has to be "supporting" body mods around the install to make it flow..and not look sterile. With that said, here are a few update pictures....
Looks great but I think that may be more effort than I'm willing to put forth. It is already 97 outside and I just don't think I have it in me....
As you guys know...the customer calls the shots...he brought car with taillights half way installed by pevious artist..us old guys have seen this treatment forever, but to the younger crowd, this is fresh..
