  1. Yes, I saw a picture of it recently, from a show in California. It's still purple, same wheels but they raised it up.

    Wasn't it purple primer for a while before the shine?

  5. I misspoke, I think it was roundup coverage I saw the Buick, and Rocky's pic above seems to confirm that, looks like the roundup from the background.

    I also remember Gary's Buick having straight pipes and a lumpy cam! That thing had a gnarly exhaust note.

    The 55 What was and still is owned by Jerry Newman and Mavis from Madrid Iowa. He bought it the year before after seeing it in Ohio at the 83 Leadsleds.

  15. Unfortunately, I didn't go that year. I was living in Memphis going to school at the time and couldn't make it.

    @Rocky and @Moriarity
    I finally was able to get a photo of the tiny little color slide that they put inside the promotional item from the gate photographer. Anybody else have one of these? I can't remember if they were free or it was just the cheapest item to buy at their photo booth. I was a cheap/poor kid fresh outta high school so probably couldn't afford a real "print". The color slide was inside the white end, a small plastic lense was in the small end. You held it up to the light and looked through it to see the photo. Also had a molded plastic loop if you wanted to use it as a key ring. 84kkoaGatePromoItem.jpg 84kkoaGatepicture55ford.jpg

    It was sold to Dave Barnes from Red Oak Iowa before the Des Moines show. Sadly it burnt up in a House fire.
