I cant show ya but I made a top down blast back and forth from Battle Ground to Kelso, WA today to play golf at Three Rivers in my 442. 80 degrees, almost shot that (81), won the money $120 (80 after I chipped in for drinks that were furnished by one of the boyz). We had a post game tailgater across the road from the course. Then a stellar ride home. The Olds aint HAMB friendly but she sure as shit aint daily utility crap. Tomorrow I get to scrape all the bugs off her.

  7. Never got a photo of my 56 Olds 98 convertible. It was exactly the wrong car for a 16 year old kid and I grew to hate that car. Kept me broke replacing tires, brakes and fuel.

    Hello,

Before the directive of being locked in place, my wife and I did our share of going to a great lunch/dinner place weekly. We had been in So Cal for so long that we knew where most of the coolest diners and restaurants were located. They were places that re-visits was not beyond us, on the hunt for great food and companionship. We have been doing that since we first met in college back in 1966. Every great restaurant and small diners along the Pacific Coast Highway was a stop over for us. We certainly miss those days.

But, as the time flies and memories of those days pop in and out, one of our favorites was the small part of Newport Beach called Lido Island. Most people get locked up in traffic all along the entry ways to the Lido Isle area. But, once in the neighborhood of expensive waterfront homes and small businesses, lies a plethora of great dining places.

We are no longer big giant cheeseburger people as we were in our 20 something days. It was nothing to find our Golden Star Restaurant for grilled hamburgers and foot long hot dogs. So, we are not in the dining out stage for a great burger. But, just a classic meal in a classic restaurant or diner.

We had some business in a large marine equipment store just around the corner and since it was lunch time, we decided to eat at one of our favorite 50’s style diners in So Cal. Woody’s Diner. We had a great meal and the atmosphere was pure 1950s- 60s history on the walls. The food, outstanding. We have been back many times as it never gets old. Plus, across the street on the Newport Harbor bay side is a great strolling center with views galore.

At one time we stopped, we saw a Candy Apple, Buick Skylark convertible sitting out on the curb near the entrance. It just made the whole scene surreal. A 1950s convertible in front of a 50s diner, it just oozed classic. Someone was looking out for us on that day. It was one of the cars that my mom wanted to buy back in 1953 at the Long Beach Buick dealer. But, my dad nixed that notion… boooo.

That Candy Apple Red, Buick Skylark would fit nicely our two car garage ready for those cool drives along the coast in So Cal. Even my wife would put the top down on those cruises, blowing hair, sun and wind would just add to the atmosphere. (just plenty of spf 60 lotion…)
