So I'm converting my dash clock into a tach. Got it mostly worked out except for removing the hands. Those suckered seem glued on. The hands are thin stamped metal and won't withstand my attempts to liberate them. Is there a tool available or I could make? Are they glued on ? I only need the long hand. Anyone have one for sale? Thanks Leon
I expect they are just a light press fit on a very slightly tapered shaft, and will pop off if you can figure out how to pry the very center of the hand (the hub) off the shaft. Good luck....the last time I tried to do something like that with a 70ish year old part, things broke.
I watched a watch maker do it with two screwdrivers. One from either side. But there are special little fork lever things to do the job.
I can't see up close but with some hands the shaft goes all of the way through. When I was doing aircraft instrument repairs we used a puller. They were similar to these on https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...H_TitleDesc=0&_sop=10&_odkw=clock+hand+puller but a bit flasher. Steve
A proper jewlers puller is obviously going to be best. But if you slip a kitchen fork under the clock hand, and either pull directly, or lever against something wedged against the clock face, it should just pop off.
