hi, Im picking up an Edmunds intake and maybe some valve covers tomorrow. seller says its for a 390..Is there markings to ID and be certain that its for a 390?? I have a 1962 engine is there a way to id it? or should i take my intake and a valve cover with me but i rather not. thanks
Looks like Cad to me. Pretty sure 1949-62 Cadillac intakes are the same. Intake gaskets are listed as 1949 to 62. That Edmunds intake is early being a 2x2. If the valve covers are Edmunds too thatd be a score. They're worth big bucks..
Black Panther is correct, will fit 49-62 . Another good score, it appears you could drop a dime and pick up a dollar!
They look killer! If I had those, I'd go out and buy an engine to put 'em on if I didn't have one. As long as you didn't pay "eBay Prices", that's a great score. I especially like the fact that there is no extra "decoration" on the valve covers.
The valve covers looked like they haven't been used and someone welded the breathers on them. The intake looks clean but the carbs need rebuilt of course. I couldn't afford eBay or hamb prices. but the seller is also a hamber. yes!!! the only way I know... Just got home after driving 12 hrs straight... Gonna drink one more Shiner Bock and go to sleep...
Thanks Seller said it could be moons or Edmunds... something about moon buying Edmunds hence the VC dint have markings
That's just as good. The plain ones look great. I think there may have been a better method of attaching the breathers, though.
good to know...are they good carbs to rebuild? i was thinking of cutting them off and welding the holes shut rockandroll i hope they dont find a cure
The valve covers could be Moon or Holmes. Holmes made those for Moon I believe since theyre identical.. If there are two letters and two numbers like NN 29, they're Moon. If it says Holmes they're Holmes. The Holmes marked ones were probably sold as no name finned covers through Honest Charlie and others. Incidentally those might not be as valuable as Edmunds or Hildebrandt covers but in my opinion they're the prettiest cover for a Caddy motor.
They do have a couple of letters and numbers so they must be moons...I agree that they are the pretties of the bunch
Seller said it could be moons or Edmunds... something about moon buying Edmunds hence the VC dint have markings Fenton bought Edmunds in the late 50s. Edmunds probably only made the 2x2 intake you bought for just a few years. Holmes made valve covers for Moon...so those two are the same except the markings inside as I mentioned before...
From 1949 to 51 the Cadillac came with a 2 barrel carb. I always thought that Edmunds offered this intake very early on since it doubles the carburetion. In 1952 when Cadillacs came with a 4 barrel carb, kinda made this intake irrelevant. Same goes for the Edmunds 2x2 for Oldsmobile. Those are some reasons why you rarely see the Edmunds stuff. As for your carbs...I'd look for a number on them and see what their original application was. If they are mid 50s or slightly earlier I'd say they'd always been on it. The bases sure match the bosses on the intake, and the linkage looks super old...looks like the throttle shaft was extended on one of them. I'd guess those carbs have been on there for a loooong time.
Great...I know If I looked for a 4x2 intake,it would be a couple of grand but the performance would be upgraded.. If I use this 2x2 it should perform the same or a bit less then the stock 4 barrel carb...but it would look so much better...I hope. I didn't do my research. Just jumped on the chance to own a cool intake
