I completed the bodywork and primed my 52F1 back in September of 2015. Since then its lived in my garage. Bed off waiting for me to contiinue. Life got in the way, but now with some serious downtime due to the China Flu I'm hoping to get back on it. The last thing I did was sand it all over with 400. If wipe it all down with prepsol should I be ok to spray paint or do I need to start over. Its never gotten wet been outside in the weather since priming. Thanks hopefully its not too dumb of a question.
I’d at least hit it with a scotch brite pad..maybe some 400 on a Da with a soft pad and interface combo..
I rescuff anything that sits more than 24hours after being prepped for paint. I would re sand. It’s cheap insurance.
First thing is wash it good with soap and water. Then use a good pre cleaning agent. Scuff the primer with at least 320 grit.
thanks for all your replies. Its a Urethane primer. I guess I'll give it a bath and a resand and go from there.
Urethane primer scratches will try to close up / lose their tooth over time when left open. As far as cleaning goes, I do a two step process. Alcohol based or water based cleaner followed by a wax and grease remover. A good home remedy is also an ammonia based glass cleaner. The wax and grease remover sold at the chain parts stores are too “hot” in my opinion. They will attack/soften primers in my experience.
I'd sure take all that tape and paper off and trash it. After you get it sanded re-tape and paper after cleaning it good. Lippy
This truck sat in primer for 5 years. I'm not here to sell a can of paint. I would da the entire vehicle down with 220. I do want to know what is under that primer. I would primer with 2 coats of the permanent rust sealer primer then reapply a surfacing primer over it. That's what I would do.
