Technical Can cars look too low

I'm not talking about cars that have been chopped and channeled to get the height of the roof low. I'm asking what you think about the "stance" of a vehicle. To me, stance has to be in proportion to tire size and look "somewhat natural" or usable. When I see cars that are either undriveable or just sitting on the ground, I think it detracts from the looks of the car.Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.

Personally I don't like them lying on the ground. Same reason I don't like rubber bands for tires on conestoga wagon wheels. I would rather have a rake than profile.

 

Unless it can run a 7 second 1/4 mile, then yes.

 

Agree, when they sit them on the ground they go from being a vehicle to being yard art.

 

They can be too low long before they look too low.

I like a car that looks and is drivable. But what I like is not important unless its my car or you are selling it to me.

 

Stance is everything in my opinion.

 

I totally agree, I don't even get how it became a fad. I'm sure at first it was like a competition to who could go the lowest, but nowadays there's several cars at any given show lowered till the rockers are touching terrafirma. You can't get lower than that, it's old hat, move on to the next silly fad, plus your stupid wheels are to far inboard to look any good.

 

I was never a fan of bagging a car, lower it and drive it. Had a 50 Ford years ago and lowered it quite a bit, looked good and drove fine on pavement, I couldn't turn into my driveway with two people in it or it drug, only had about 4" clearance at the front cross member
. A friend lives about 1/4 mile down a gravel road and I went to visit him one day, the front cross member hit a rock, rolled it up and bent the clutch linkage. Another time we were doing a garage tour and went down a gravel road and the mufflers were dragging on the windrows of gravel. Car probably was too low but still looked good and not a bad driver if you paid attention.

Scrub line is what I look at. It's got to be realistic.
The exception would be true lowriders, an art form of it's own. No limit for those guys.

 

Remember back in early 60's my buddy lowered my 57 using the old heat the front coils trick. Had to go sideways across the Railroad tracks.It was a little low.

Well built functional bagged or static dropped rides are cool.
Lowriders, tail dragers and sleds are rolling art.
Building a bagged step van that will lay bumpers on the ground. It will still function and cruise down the road just fine.

Poorly built low stuff that has to be trailered to a show due to drivability issues is a no for me.

 

Exactly! I agree that the stance is what 'makes' a car. It can be drop-dead gorgeous but if it is up too high or sitting too low, it ruins it for me. I've always enjoyed a lowered custom but it has to be high enough to drive without trouble. See my thread:

Yep..."air bags" are for semi-trucks, not cars.
If the car has to be raised to be driven...it's just a useless cartoon.

I don’t know what “stance” is but vehicle’s with 26” rims and air bags sure ain’t it for me, but it keeps younger guys interested.

 

You can go the other extreme and drive a" Donk". A Chevy caprice jacked up with 28 inch wheels.
Can drive over a fire hydrant and not touch. They are popular in the south. Some of those abortions are pretty fast . You tube has some drag race videos.
