  3. you will need to run an additional wire to one of the rear taillights and separate the brake wires.

Shoot, that's right. It's been forever since I did mine. I rewired my car at the same time I did the switch. Good catch on me!

  5. '50 Chev lenses bolt rite in , they stick out a bit for better viewing for others to see.

If you install a 53-54 steering gear and column you get a built in turn signal switch along with easier steering due to roller bearing on the Pittman shaft.

I actually have a turn signal unit off of a 53 I’d sell. May need a new switch.

Can the 53 unit be installed on my 49 column?

I would really consider using the column mount switch. It has a rubber wheel that allows the switch to cancel when the steering wheel is turned and then returned to its center position. The switch I list shows the harness and flasher included. The 53 tun signal is in the 53 column. There is no need for all that work. The switch I list is the correct way to go. I also have the wiring diagram that I could send you. It's not that hard to do.

Replace the single filament sockets with duals.
Don't forget the mast jacket is larger diameter on the '53-'54 if you want to use that unit, so it has to be shimmed to center it. Then, there's the wiring - it's not easy to pull the tube and fabricate a guide in that small space.
The Guide 6004 switch is the one to use - the little chrome Chinaman units with the green knob last for a month if they work at all.

Yes it can. The 53 column has a nub on it that keeps the turn signal housing from turning. You can weld a small nub there or put a short screw in it to serve the same purpose. And by the way you’ll have to use a 53-54 steering wheel.
