Good eye. 56 Ford covers that Guthriesmith gave me. We spent a few hours on the buffer and at first we had bullets in the center, but Colby isn't much of a custom guy, so he made covers for the center and painted them black.

He is pretty mechanically inclined. He impresses me. He doesn't have a lot of self confidence, but he gets it. He tends to lean more towards restoration. He is intrigued with mechanical things of the past. All of the folks at the antique stores in OKC know his name.

Late coming back to this thread but the truck came out SO nice. He should be proud of it in many ways and you guys and mom should be super proud to have turned out a hardworking, responsible young man. Take some pictures with ALL of you that were involved next to the truck! Try to talk him into keeping it. 99% of us wish we still had our first car/truck and almost none of us had as nice as he has.

  6. This is an awesome build thread!! I wish my 59 turned out this nice the first time I built it. Drug it home when I was a 17 year old kid, still have it at 40.

I am sure he will refine it each time he goes through it. His tastes will change and he will change things that bug him. I have done my 36 twice already, fixing to undergo a third.

You're not kidding. His arms look like they got muscles and his Jean's got the heck beat out of them. Great job on that truck, son. You'll never forget that time in the garage with your grandpa, as long as you live.
I hope you have the same chance with your grandson, one day.

I talked to his mom yesterday and she said she is ready for the COVID deal to lift. He was spending all his free time at my shop, now he feels like he needs to be busy. Driving her crazy. I'll put him back to work when this virus quarantine lifts. He has a job waiting at the local waterpark, but everything is on hold.

Uncle Roothawg has created a monster. This boy sends me pics all the time of project cars he wants me to buy, or his sister, or anyone who will listen. I try to tell him he owes me money for the Apache still and can’t even afford the gas he’s driving out each day but does he listen? Heck no. I will say it’s been a rollercoaster but nothing compares when I see him smiling as he starts it up and backs it out of the garage. He told me yesterday as we were cruising around Mustang that it turned out exactly how he wanted and is really happy.
I’m trying to put a video together of the rebuild. Hope to have a link that root can post soon.

Link to a YouTube video of the rebuild I put together. My Brother was supposed to post it here but apparently he’s too busy ironing his underwear or dusting his action figure collection. Hope u enjoy it.
I can’t seem to get the link to work so you can go to YouTube and search 1958 Apache Rebuild

What an awesome ride he ended up with. With the support of a whole bunch of people. Good for him sticking through the whole build. :)

    nice video too.

  26. Definitely. Pretty sure driving something like this with lots of folks seeing it around town is almost as good as GPS in today's world. ;)

[QUOTE=Uncle Roothawg has created a monster.

LOL! That may be true but, Uncle Root, Mom, and Grandpa have also created a hardworking and responsible young man who'll succeed at whatever he choses. Great Job!!!

  29. Got to check out the Okie Apache in person tonight when Colby and Grandpa John were cruising in it. Looked good!

Oh, and he said he had now put about 1000 miles on it.

There’s plenty of bodywork left for him to do. It’s got a long way to go, but it’s a high school driver. He did a lot of the bodywork himself. He signed up for auto body at vo tech next year .
