I figure its about time to start a build thread on this car,so here goes. Its a 51 Ford coupe from Texas in very good shape as far as rust goes. It does have some issues(dont they all) witch I will get into as I go. I have 6 others to upkeep so this one is on a budget. I am trying to use up stuff I already have for the most part. I am building it as a young guy would have back in the day. I lived thru the 60s and remember just doing mechanical work to keep them going so we could cruise! Just did a minimum of body work and got out the flat black. So thats what this one is going to be-lowered,skirts . WWW ,tail dragger. I have a ways to go ,but I actually pulled a few dents out the other day. Felt good-Im pumped! 2018-07-21%20001.JPG 2018-07-21%20002.JPG 2018-07-21%20003.JPG

I like that car. If I had it as a second classic I'd leave it like that, and build up the drivability. It looks mean the way it is.

Thats the plan. For the paint anyway. Its still gonna be a tail dragger tho.

Been driving my '50 a bit lately. It's stone reliable with a 302/C4 8inch combo. Kinda beat up, no rust. So...I like your plan!

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. Sorry to disappoint the Ford guys ,but Its getting a 283 with a turbo 350. I already have them so .. Not sure if the old rearend will take it. I have a chance at a 55 bird rear. I read they are stronger. Any comments on that?

I was planning to but I think I’m going to shoot for next year. I’m hoping to get some of the more custom body mods done this fall, like the merc grille surround , radius hood corners, peaked hood, and few other things on my list. My goal is to build a nice mild to full Kustom, and if I put it in the road I won’t want to stop driving it!

  23. I don't know anything about Tbird rear ends, but Maverick or Comet is supposed to be the one to find. 8" or 9" I don't know, someone more smarterer than me can chime in.

Big A,the bird rear end is supposed to be the same width as original but I will measure for sure.

Thanks guys. The interior is gold flake and pearl white.I always wanted to do a 50s-60s custom . I guess I am cheating a bit here because I doubt that a young guy back then would have a very good interior unless he had a relative to do it. None of my customers ever wanted a flake interior so I will just have to do my own.lol
