Not sold yet - one party interested but this damned pandemic has thrown everything into turmoil. And, yes, this car is set up almost perfectly - an amazingly well built car with a killer stance...

There's room enough under the rear fenders for a T/F slick.

Yep! Not exactly a gasser and more likely an altered.

Love the graphics on that trunk lid. If you've ever raced one of these cars you will appreciate that.

A decade ago I was looking for an Anglia body or car to build a gasser style build, but couldn't locate a good candidate. I stumbled across what at first glance appeared to be an Anglia Prefect, but it said "Austin A8" in the ad. It was 40 miles from me, so called the seller and hooked up the trailer to go look, and maybe buy. It was 100% stock, and although not an Anglia, it was rust free, and ended up buying it.
The Austin A8 was slightly smaller than an Anglia, and much smaller than a Prefect! I got so many people calling it and Anglia I had a pinstriper letter, "Not An Anglia" just below the back window.

The Gleadow family have had a long involvement in British drag racing with a series of race cars, primarily altereds following this Anglia (actually a Ford Popular) which was originally named the “Mangler” before becoming Motor Psycho. After a big wheelstand ended in a broken motor the car was sold and became the original “Al’s Gasser”

Does a popular count? Is there a difference?

That's a 1948 or 49 Anglia. By the reverse opening scoops on the sides of the cowl.
1950 to 53 had movable doors in that location.

I don't think so LB (difference that is) it depends on who you talk to. I think in Britain they are called "Poplars"
