This is an excellent book for anyone interested in these old cars, but especially for custom guys. The uphill battle Edsel fought with his father and Ford's engineers as he tried to move the company forward gives some really interesting context for the evolution of Ford's designs. @Jive-Bomber another one to add to your list if you haven't already is William Knoedelseder's book Fins: Harley Earl, the Rise of General Motors, and the Glory Days of Detroit. It's kind of companion reading to the Edsel Ford and E.T. Gregorie book in that it takes a look at what was going on down the road during the same time period.

Look on the SAE , Society of Automotive Engineers website, they still list it at $39.95, I don’t remember what I paid for shipping.
Fantastic book, one of my favorites. The writing is done well but the studio shots of the clay models are worth the cover price all by themselves.
A great book, as has been said the Hardcover is the one to get, I had one, gave a loan of it to someone, never got it back. Bought two more that were advertised as hardback but upon arrival they were really poor quality soft back, cheap paper and all the photos were grainy. The original book is so good, really informative on so many levels.
