The 1949 plymouth p17 fastback is getting modern leaf springs. When we were mounting the front spring hangers we found where some of the old seats ended up, inside the boxed frame. We have dug out rats' nests before but never took a picture. Let's see your pictures.
OH hell no, This is on the truck that my aunt gave me that my uncle had driven for years. Then it sat for a number of years before I put an engine in it and started driving it. Something ate a hole though the squirrel cage to get inside. I was freezing my butt off driving it in the winter as no air was gettng though the heater. A shop vac attack took care of that.
I wish I had taken a picture of the 1965 Mercury Monterey 4 door sedan that sat a few miles West of Casper, Wyoming a few years ago. It had a nest that was even with the beltline. Yes, the entire seating area from dashboard to package shelf, door to door, was one huge mouse/rat's nest. It was without a doubt the biggest one I had ever seen, and probably needed to be torched in situ before moving it anywhere. It may even still be there, on WY 220 where the N. Platte Gorge is about 5 miles West of Casper.
This was after about an hour of digging crap out of the engine compartment! I wish I had taken a pic before I started! You could not see the valve covers! Bones
Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (google it) is a very serious life threatening disease you can get from dealing with rodent nests and debris. You should at the very least wear high quality face masks and sterilize the affected area’s where nests and rodent droppings are found.
We have those big Wood Rats. Pack Rats. and they fill old cars full. blackberry canes horse turds sticks anything they can find. I bought a 55 GMG in Noxapadia Misssissippi. and there was one nesting under the hood. And he stayed in the truck all the way here. I eventually poisoned him. that D con wasn't working. I found some poison called one Bite at the feed store. and it done the job.
I had some mice take up residence in my car while it was parked in the carport. I found evidence, torn paper, rags, cotton, etc in the trunk. I cleaned it out with the vacuum, then we went to a cruise in on a city Main Street. I was standing by the car talking to a guy and spotted a mouse as he dropped out from underneath somewhere, I discretely kicked him down the storm drain, hoping the guy didn’t see him, he didn’t. I didn’t want anybody to know I brought mice to a cruise in! Never saw any more evidence of them being in the car again, so I may have gotten rid of the offender before he set up housekeeping in my car!
I bought the 51 Chevrolet Business Coupe right here off the HAMB; had it trucked up here from Texas, where it had sat in a barn for some 32 years. Being a Bus Coupe, and not having a rear seat, it had the flat, plywood shelf for suitcases and such. I'd already cleaned a bunch of nests out, removed what was left of the headliner and door panels, removed the seat, and then lifted up the shelf. It was full to the top, side-to-side, front-to-back, and I figured the floor underneath would be nonexistent. Surprisingly, the floor under it was in really good shape, with no rust through at all. I filled one large garbage can, and had started on another before I pretty much cleaned everything up from inside the car. What a mess, and the entire time doing it, I kept thinking, "Hantavirus". I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
