    Robert Plant The Big Log

    Hello,

This song by Robert Plant, as a single performer, is one of the most haunting songs made. But, it fits the mode of cars as it mentions what we can’t have unless we are involved with it.

"Big Log is a mythical, extended metaphor for a lost love: "My love is in league with the freeway... My love is the miles and the waiting." A Big Log is common lingo of tractor trailer drivers. It is the book in which their road hours are logged, therefore the connection between the road and love and the countless hours we all log on both.”

It was one of the audio performers on our cross country road trip that my wife and I took years ago. The long road trip was supposed to go all the way to the Eastern seaboard, but was interrupted somewhere outside of St. Louis. The rotation of cd’s played perfectly with the roads, freeways and how barren the Midwest/Southwest area is or can be. (even Highway 70 going West.)

"My love is in league with the freeway
Its passion will rise as the cities fly by
And the tail lights dissolve in the coming of night
And the questions and thousands take flight…”

After our impromptu turn around, the whole Midwest-Southwest area was our playground. After a few months at home, we traded in the station wagon and lost the two best cd’s accidentally left in the wagon. A Daryl Hall rare single cd and this Robert Plant single cd. The Robert Plant CD was replaced immediately, but the Daryl Hall CD was finally downloaded after many years later. It is a rare one…
