Just a heads up. I have received 2 emails from a purported Lieutenant Caleb Carnutt looking to purchase a car via paypal for his brother. The number they are using to text is 985-412-4018. Remember everyone that paypal has different regulations on car sales (i.e. almost none for the seller).
So how is it a scam? There's nothing particularly wrong to use PayPal to receive money if that's what they want to do. Just use the usual caution and due diligence before you release the sold vehicle to the buyer. Money is money but checks are paper. The name wouldn't bother me. People use all kinds of made-up names for email and avatars.
Are they related to Bertha? Bertha Butt. Actually, I have received several E-Mails recently telling me that my Pay Pal account had some odd transactions and for me to contact the e-mail contact. I do not have Pay Pal and will only do sell or buy with cash in person or U.S. Post Office Money Orders. Bought my '55 T Bird from here last Winter, cash, and recently sold a shifter and shipped it via U.S. Post Office with money order and shipping..
Lots of email and text scams with amazon, pay pal, eBay concerning shipment, account problems etc. even CC accounts. I never open anything
That number is listed a s a scammer over on this Facebook site,so maybe it is a scam. https://www.facebook.com/groups/197689984736137/
