Ok well it’s been some IMG_7372.JPG IMG_7492.JPG time since I’ve done a build thread. I’ve moved up to Central Oregon and have had a lot of life changing along the way since my T. Now I’ve been graced with putting my hands and mind to work on this bitchin little big 1938 Dodge coupe for a good friend I’ve met through an even better friend up here. This is what it’s starting out as. It’s been a project that seemed to have the right idea but sadly passed around a few times with hastily done work. Thankfully though it came with some great parts to star so here we go. IMG_7104.JPG
My first order of business was out with the old front end and in with the new
    IMG_7258.JPG
After that I figured I needed to move the fire wall back some. There’s a huge dead space between the fire wall and where the hood lays so it was time to knife that old ugly fire wall out and start new IMG_0268.JPG
Then map out for the new one IMG_7287.JPG Adjustments.JPG
Little more knocking around with a dolly and hammer IMG_7604.JPG
And it fell into place. Now it was time to figure out the motor placement. 60583400379__EB2D2502-3D07-4222-B9A0-CFDBB12342C5.JPG
My drill press took a turn for the worse. But I’m a man with a Milwaukee so....
    IMG_7815.JPG
I wanted something between a solid mount with some cushion to spare. So I decided 1/2 plate tapped to 1/2 20 would do and what can I say I’m a hot Rodder so Flathead motor mounts are my go to.

I soon moved on to the trans crossmember. I like using the speedway universal trans crossmembers when I can. Saves some time and money. I did cut it up a bit and make it tie into the X member while being removable as well. IMG_8142.JPG
I’ll add more pictures of the trans crossmember on a future post.

Looks like a 440. Has the pad in front of the valley.

It’s a vibro shear, same idea as a pullmax.

    You are correct it’s a 440. I wish it were a hemi or a 413 but it’s cheaper to go with the 440 IMG_0282.JPG

Thank You for the Mopar engine!

  19. Cool project. I like how you cut the cowl down. Those late 30's Mopars have tight engine compartments. Dad and I had a hell of a time fitting a 392 Hemi into his 37 Dodge.

I’m sure you did! Also when you think about the engine bay as a whole the further you move back the more room you have for the heads since the frame is at its widest point in the center of the car.

I got the car sitting on its own suspension again!!! It looks great! This is the lowest setting and I live it but I’m sure I’ll have to adjust the wheel arches a bit.

    I like old Mopars. I like Mopar B & RB engines, A833, 8.75...
    I like your car.

Your firewall is so unique. I've never seen anything quite like it.

    A work of art. Distinctive.
Can't wait to see how you finish everything.

Seeing it in person is so much better! The firewall is unique and will be painted to match the car. Probably going dark blue with some metallic flake.
