Make sure you hook up a vacuum line on those 2 nipples...... That's one of Ford's better ideas that worked!..... ;)

F3680A10-6856-405A-BAE0-86A32B9CDD62.jpeg So now I have a whole nother dilemma
I open my box with the linkage to start setting it up and this is what I have.
It was supposed to be inline style.
This guy I bought everything from really isn’t doing me any favors here.

The good news is... inline linkage is CHEAP!
Sell the side by side linkage and you could probably buy 10 inline kits!

  9. Or get a hex shaft that's long enough to go between the carbs, use the heims out of the kit to go onto each carb and buy a throttle cable which you needed to buy anyhow.

Ok looks like I just need to make or buy a couple hex shafts
Seems like the rest of the kit is the same.
That sure makes me feel better.
Seems like this has been spiraling out of control $$$ wise
I was told when I bought it it was a complete setup ready to bolt on.
Not so much! But I’ll get it on there come hell or high water

  11. Anytime you add a blower into the mix the pocketbook gets lighter.

Ok so I know this is an older thread but I thought I’d update now that I finally got everything together and fired it up.
The engine starts right up with a tap of the throttle.
I need to do some tuning the carbs are straight out of the box 1850 tunnel ram carbs
I believe it has a vacuum leak or lean idle
I can’t seem to get the idle down without it stalling.
I haven’t had time to get back to it since I fired it up/broke it in.
Any ballpark tuning advice such as jets, powervalves, springs.
It’s a pretty mild small block Chevy

I have a video I’m trying to figure out how to upload.

Stock jetting on Holleys tends to be a tad rich, so you can usually use it as is.

What is your ignition timing? both initial, and total.

What is the lowest speed it will idle at?

The distributor is locked @ 28* total right now
Was considering bumping it to 30*
If I put it in gear with the brake on and stab it I get about 5 lb of boost it’s 20% underdriven
    Motor has 8.6-1 compression

I can’t get it to idle less than 1600rpm
Do you think the PCV could be causing a vacuum leak sufficient enough to cause this?

First thing I would do is have functioning mechanical advance in the distributor, start with 15 to 20 degrees initial, and have it start advancing about 1200 RPM, to 32 total, all in by 2500 rpm.

    Then see how it runs.

Well I don’t disagree with that advice at all, but I’m going to try and get it to run locked I know there are quite a few people doing it
For 2 reasons just because it’s welded to lock it and I don’t have another one and I’d have to pull the blower to swap distributors it’s a tight fit with the way I built the recess in the firewall.

Hmmm.....might try retarding the timing a bunch, and see if it helps the idle. If not, then no loss. If it does, then you know what your next move will have to be, expensive and unpleasant as it may be.

    Great idea I’ll try it
I’m not opposed to doing it I was just leaving it as a last resort. That should give me a direction anyway

    Hi
I had problems with idle. To get the butterfly's closed so it was on the idle circuit I had to drill hole in secondary butterfly's.

I had to do that with a tunnel ram once
I totally forgot I had done it then sold the carbs
The guy wasn’t very happy I bought and sent him new throttle plates

I think you can adjust secondary with a small screw and open them alittle

If butterfly's open to fare then idle screws on side of metering block will not adjust right if at all.

I definitely have them open beyond the idle circuit to keep it running now

    Thanks guys
I’m going to play with the distributor, check for vacuum leaks, and try to open the secondary’s a little this afternoon I’ll report back later with my findings

Well I played with the timing it likes 30* the best
There isn’t an adjustment to open the secondary so I uncapped a couple vacuum ports in the bases to hopefully simulate drilling the throttle blades
I’ve been anywhere from 1/2 turn to 2 1/2 turns on the idle mixture screws
Really nothing makes a difference because I can’t close the blades enough to stay in the idle circuit and still keep it running.
I’m not a carb guy and am frustrated
I think I’m going to call a local carb guy to look at it or order carbs.
I hate to spend $1600 on Blower carbs
These are remanufactured from Holley and I’ve had nothing but trouble they had bad needle and seats and leaked out of the Welch plugs from the start. So I’m not really impressed from them from the get go
    Any other ideas?
