Looks like 49-50 Chevy passenger car mounted horizontal instead of the usual vertical.

  3. Looks good I think. Agree they are 49-50

I was gonna say '49 or '50 Merc tail lites, that was a common treatment.
Now, what type of dog was that a Bull Mastiff?

Whatever breed it is it's not supposed to be in the back of a pickup unrestrained.

    I totally agree.

  9. .........That was my first thought as well, but on closer inspection, the guys above are correct, '49-'50 Chevy. Weren't they the same through '52 though?

Nope, 51 and 52 are the same but different from the 49 and 50.

Don, ‘49 and ‘50 were very similar, but not quite the same. The most obvious difference, and maybe the only one, is the lens on a ‘49 contoured the same as the bezel....the ‘50 lens extends outward at the top and tapers to meet the bezel at the bottom. Also, they both were mounted inboard of the fender seam.

‘51/‘52 Chevys had different rear fender shape, not teardrop like the ‘49/‘50, more squared off like a Pontiac of that era. The taillights were on the trailing edge of the fender, again similar to Pontiac but rectangular in shape and bezels were contoured to the fender shape, a slight ‘wrap around’ shape.

Hey Ray, you know I have never noticed that on the 49 and 50 lenses before! I've owned both a 51 and 52 for a long time and incorrectly assumed that as with the two later years, the two earlier lenses were the same. I see how the 50 has that protrusion outward of the bezel. In the case of the AD, and the curve to the fender, I can see how the 50 would be better choice of lens. It's funny, as I have a 51 AD in my garage and I have the 50 Merc taillights up on a shelf for it. I've never saw the 50 Chevy car used on the truck before. It doesn't look half bad.
