Customs 1957 Continental glass top

About 1978, I had a chance to buy a very nice example of a Mark II for $5000. In my infinite wisdom, I added another $10,000 and bought a new boat instead.

And you know what they say about boats.

IMHO that is the most beautiful car ever to be produced. All it needs is custom wheels and lower it a little. I have always wanted one.

 

I would not do ANY body mods on one of these unless it was a complete clapped out piece of un-fixable shit. "OLDSMAN" is correct about them being "the most beautiful car ever to be produced". or close to it. Certainly the best after 1950.

 

I always wondered what one would look like with a vinyl top. Let the flaming begin.

 

Henry Ford the second’s wife had a 56 with a vinyl or fabric top. It also was built without a hood ornament.

I've always heard that HF II's wife's car was one of 2 cloth-top convertibles authorized by the factory, although there were several others done later as customs by private parties.

 

Yes there were two convertibles but I don’t believe either stayed in the Ford family.

 

Took my boys for a little ride and decided it’s time to get rid of these 31X10.5 truck tires so I dropped off the 15 steal wheels for sandblasting and epoxy. Next I’ll mount some proper bias tires.

 

Why, I say why would somebody put off road tires on a street car, it makes no sense ( stupid that is).

Welcome to the 21st century; there are a lot of things happening that don't make any sense. Some of the cars I see on the street defy description.

I think this is one of the reasons most of us are here; it allows us to return to more sensible times.

 

Great score, great car. Congrats.

 

Unless you are doing a Concours restoration, I don't see the benefit of bias tires.

There's room enough for everything. As to Teslas, ever drive one? Like the old Alka Seltzer commercial said "Try it, you'll like it!". Think about it; electric cars (which are inevitably coming), wil almost eliminate the demand for gasoline; the Arabs will end up selling it off just to get by. I can see it now; all of the 25 cent a gallon gas we can ever use.

 

No, I haven't. I have no desire too, either. My newest vehicle is a '68 F100. The point is that all people that pushing modern upgrades on the basis of old tech being obsolete, while on this site, are clearly missing the point of the whole thing.

There was a decent car hiding under all that scuzz!

I always thought Mk IIs had skinny a-pillars, but I'd never seen one taken down to the bare shell before. Those are twigs! No wonder they have such fat c-pillars, they are the only thing holding the roof up.

 

Definitely a save,, do what every YOU want. After seeing the way you bought it I’m sure the bottom is not pristine. Thankful there isn’t a ton of chrome on it..

Pretty banged up but overall solid.

 

I have fenders luckily since this one is pretty cobbled together. I’m going to fix all rust and dent areas and the decide what the next steps will be.

 

Paint it Black, lower it, change the wheels and call it done.

 

Home in the shop for a while now. Plenty of dents to repair.
