Unfortunately I've seen my share of our local barns go up like that not for training but for real. One of the more memorable ones was arson where the culprit turned out to be a volunteer firefighter. A 20 something kid who wanted to be a hero of sorts and be the first one on the scene.

I ran across some good reading years ago about a man , that was his lively hood for years , painting Mail Pouch adds on barns . He traveled the country in an old pickup , a couple ladders , paint and brushes . Really hardy , weathered looking old man , great reading .

Sorry, no pics. The Gilmore Museum has the nicest old barns I have ever seen.

I believe this was part of a rock quarry. It's still standing but a bitch to
get to. It's located across from the decommissioned Joliet Correctional
Center in Joliet, Illinois (think "The Blues Brothers" and the tv show
    "Prison Break").

Old tobacco barn in southern Kentucky, about a mile from my place. Maybe a little too late to save it, I guess......

Round Barn 1.jpg Round Barn 3.jpg Round Barn 2.jpg This is the Fountaingrove Round Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Very prominent landmark. Built in the 1890's. Burned in the Tubbs fire in 2017... along with the rest of Fountaingrove...

Here’s my little spread. All the barns pictured are mine. The house is a little bit hidden by the trees. The barn just to the left is the garage.

Here’s a picture of the front of the garage, and a few of the inside. This was right after we moved in. It isn’t nearly that clean or empty now.

  12. Lighten up, Francis. I should probably amend that to former law enforcement. Still working for the Feds, just not in the same capacity. :)

The house was originally built before the civil war, and added on to several times. All of the barns by the house are turn of the century, more or less. The barn on the right side of the picture is newer, probably from the ‘30s. Just about 13 1/2 acres. No close neighbors.
