^^^^^^^ All that work and it is a beautiful car. But did you know one of the headlights sits about an inch lower than the other. Look closely. The restored version is still the same. But who really notices. And who really cares.

Thanks for the Merc history lesson. Going to have to check it out. Kool they left it that way when they restored it.

  11. Strange Mick posted the Merc panel today, as yesterday I found this for sale locally. The lines on it aren't near as nice as "Trouble in Paradise", but it's still cool. My guess is that it was chopped just a touch too much, or it started out life as a four door having short front doors and giving it a little too much length. Maybe skirts and some lowering would help along with some full wheel covers. It is close, but not quite right, especially on the profile shot.
It would be a neat car to tinker with and get right, but the $25K asking price is way outta my range..........E

I saw that last week. I agree it has a lot of potential. You would probably need at least $20k more to get it where I'd want it. Love your ideas, hope it finds a good home.

  13. Definitely looks like a four door was used and the door is too short for the overall design IMO.

This is a rough drawing done on-site of an amazing 25,000ish mile ex-Michigan '51 stocker I recently saw (down-under). Very, very few (if any) 49-51's made it out here new. This is the first fifty-one I've seen, and I'm way over 50 y.o.

I love it. The sheer bulky look of it- I've seen 49/50's , but the 51 is pure outrageous in it's visual heft. And there is an imperfect obsolescence to it stylewise, compared to competing '51 makes. Ironically, this sets it apart as the standout '51 car for me (I have not seen them all).
Here I gave it a quick, crude chop and rear lowering. I very much like '51 Mercs.

Mercs like these are the coolest to me. Nice subtle simple things that have a ton of influence on how the car turned out. These changes are actually dramatic but to the untrained eye you'd never know. Brings a sort of elegance and flow to these care.

Just polished mine out with Griot Garage orbital polisher and their products. I'm extremely impressed and highly recommend them. I've been painting and polishing cars since 1962, and never had finish results as good. IMG_0558-1.jpg
