I'm looking to possibly get a top chopped in a 41 Chevy coupe somewhere in the vicinity of Illinois I will travel to the right person anybody else but Voodoo Larry no offense to Voodoo Larry I prefer someone not around the Chicago area could get a little bit too pricey
Midwest Fabrication, Voodoo Kustoms, Hot Rod Chassis and cycle.. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/hot-rod-kustom-shops-in-illinois.496007/
not a"belly button" chop - someone that knows how to execute it properly will be pricey - and likely busy - may be a line in front of you
It's very possible that Kenny has chopped more tops than anyone else in history. http://akathechopper.tripod.com/Index-2.html
Merle Berg, St Donatus, IA. PM me for details or contact info. Sent from my SM-G981U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I was going to mention Kenny as well. I have been to his shop, great guy. I'm not sure he is on the HAMB much these days. If you want a phone number for him I think I have his business card here somewhere. Russell.
Kenny hasn't been on the hamb for about 4 years, thus I put his website in the response. His phone # is on the website. Jamoke; his hamb name is choprods but he won't see any PMs on here.
If your willing to send it to Pa.I can take it on.I just chopped my full custom 51 merc. I only do restoration and custom work in my shop in Pa. Thanks,Jack
Another vote for Kenny (choprods). He chopped the top on my kids 50 Ford that we had and it was definitely a nice job.
Hey Tom what about Andy & Jerry were the Hunnert car pile-up where Martys body shop. Also Cary at Hoppersteds but he may be retired . I would also say choprods ...
Friend of mine had Kenny chop his 34 4 door and the job was outstanding. Having had 12 deuces chopped over my car building life, my main body man has retired. I'd be going to Kenny if I wanted another one chopped.
Merle Berg is without a doubt one of the best metal men I know. A true unsung hero and a great guy to boot......He will absolutely do a tremendous job for you
Don't want to speak for Merle but he is not doing much anymore . He is a very good friend of mine. He had been on his own project for quite some time and really doubt he will take on a customers car. He is one of the best metal men I have ever seen.
Yes, he spends most of his time on Facebook. I bought a killer hollow body guitar off him a while back.
I didn't know Kenny was having health problems. With craftsmen like him and Berg out of the game the selection of reasonably priced talented metal men is getting thinner.
Get references first on whoever you choose. Most fail to do that, and end up with their car locked up in bodyshop jail, or worse, cut up by some hack that doesn't have his shit together or lacks the ability to see a job through from start to finish. Calling references will tell you a lot. I know the older guys are retiring or slowing down, but there truly are good metal guys coming up to take their place.
