While I know it’s not traditional I run an electric fan on my model a (with a Chevy v8) just for hot hot days and bumper to bumper traffic . Most of the time I don’t need or use it. I’ve tried to use those plastic through the core mounts but they always break or rip the fins out of the radiator . I don’t run a fan shroud so I’m looking to see how some of you guys have mounted your fans. Pics would be great. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Toyota Camry dual fan assembly on my 63 Chevy. Fits the stock radiator like a glove. This car connot be overheated. Those plastic mounting ties you are using are garbage.
Now that’s what I’m talking about. How does it attach in the front Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Ok I had to post a picture. One of the neat things about using that shroud, besides the fact that it’s good to use one, was it was made to fit my fan (nuts welded on). Easy.
This is the kind of thing I’m looking for , how does it attach to the front or side? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
After making the brackets, I installed rivnuts in the radiator side brackets and used hurricane bolts to attach the brackets to the radiator.
It's your car and it's none of my business, it's your car but why don't you want to run a shroud? They work. You might not even need a full shroud.
Hide a fan inside a shroud with the mechanical fan still in use. After seeing overheat problems early on (17 years on the road) my wife decided to hide a fan inside a shroud. She built one on the English wheel and riveted it together. A toggle switch under the dash allows easy access. The traditional hot rod folks don't pay any attention to it and it makes summer driving cool!
My car has no hood and has consistently run at 180 without a shroud and I only use the fan in bad traffic conditions. I put a full shroud on my last car and all it did was overheat until I pulled it out then it ran fine. I’m really just looking for mounting bracket ideas for the fan . I’m putting in a new radiator and don’t want to mount it with those crap plastic ones that just break and rip the Fins all up, Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Running a sbc you can use a zips riser and center up a manual fan up 5 inches higher and eliminate the electric fan all together. HRP
Am I writing in a foreign language?im simply looking for a way to mount my electric fan without a shroud. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Not a foreign language but it sure seems Mt T body showed you a perfect way of mounting the electric fan and I offered a alternative, excuse me for trying to help. HRP
Not a model a, and it’s set up as a pusher. Bent up two brackets out of some 3/16 strap, bolted the fan to them, then bolted the brackets to the radiator support. They go all the way across, so pretty sturdy. I think they’re 3/4 wide.
