Technical What did you do today?

Finally at the end of the demo on the 1956 and ready to send it down the road....parts for my 56 hardtop....

 

I finaly cleaned my Jet mill. I wasn't feeling that swell but I got my act together and figered I'd just clean the mess off and around it and see how I felt. Got carried away and 5 hrs later it sparkles!

 

Finished up the modification to intake manifold.

 

Finished redoing my old El Burro mini bike... electric start 8.5 HP Kohler motor, nice adult pit bike...

 

Watched Attack of the the killer leaches . Put rocker arm cover gaskets on the Avanti then took a nap

 

Visited about 10 nurserys looking for pink dogwood trees. My bil ran over my wife's pink dogwoods with the mower last year. Nobody has pink dogwood damn trees!!!

Had a needle in my back for f&%$#* arthritis.

 

Got up and took a nap. lol. Then I disassembled the bathroom sink drain pipe. First foot was packed solid, Good thing was put together last remodel with rubber couplers, only a few cuss words involved. I then cleaned the floor around/behind the Jet mill and mostly plastic swarf from under one lathe..Now catching up on putor stuff listening to

 

So for a few years I've been wanting to host a drive in movie. And now is a great time since we can 'social distance' in our cars. Last week I scored a high power projector, been testing it out. Last night I put up a 12x20 tarp for a test screen. Looks really good so far, still figuring out the switches and knobs. Doesn't get dark until 9 so I have to take a nap before hand.

I have a low power FM transmitter coming to play the sound on the car radios. Soon as I get that worked out it's popcorn time!

 

I have bone marrow cancer that is controlled by interferon injections, but I am not in remission. I have had significant pain issues for 33 years, and have used aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and many other medications that specialists have tried on me over the years.
Four years ago, I started using CBD to help control my pain, muscle cramping and seizures, after reading a lot of research papers, and talking to a lot of people with joint replacements or other serious conditions that left them with substantial pain .
For over twenty years, I have had to take up to 8, 292s per day (that is 500 mg of aspirin plus 30 mg of codeine), with only a marginal pain relief. I have been offered the heavy duty narcotic pain relievers many times, and my answer has always been the same, that long term use is a one way trip to addiction.
By using the CBD oil, I have not only had better pain relief, but I have been able to completely discontinue the pain relievers that contain codeine. Because my CBD is prescribed, the drug cost is covered by my plan.
I have no way of knowing if everyone would get the amazing amount of pain relief that I did, but if CBD is legal in your state , I would suggest that anyone experiencing significant chronic pain, do some reading and researching. It is a far better alternative to going down the heavy narcotics route.
If anyone wants some of the information I used to make my decision, just PM me.
Nobody should have to live in pain, if there is something that can be done to relieve it.

Tell me about your Mill, is it one of the small, bench top ones? I sold my SB years ago when I was moving, and need something small now that actually works well

You're on point Bob,
I've a bottle of the stuff in liquid. I rub it in (smells a bit) on pain/joint issues, and the pain goes away...no pills, etc, that make my whole body feel numb.

 

The other thing I forgot to mention, is that there is no degradation in cognitive (thinking) ability, or the reflexes. I have no problem working with sharp power tools or on my electronics projects.

View from the inside. Slow day when you can get excited over finding an unopened tub of drywall mud. I knew I had a gallon can of red stain for the siding. Turns out it is 3/4 full and stirred up just fine, goes on tomorrow. Bob

 

Thanks. That was the test location. I'm going to frame a screen above my shop next week. But I am not excavating for sloped parking. I have drive on ramps for the front row, lol. No oil changes during the show.

April 17th 2020 113 degree heat index on Wednesday. Summer is back, Jack. I've adjusted my schedule to spending most of my shop time in the wee hours of the morning except on weekends when I work until mid-afternoon.

Continuing with inventory and organizing ops, this time the first shelving unit on the west wall. The top shelf has a small blast cabinet, small portable gas can, industrial wipes, Eastwood Contour surface conditioning tool and Black and Decker angle grinder.

Second shelf is a paint shelf with a box containing 2 touch-up spray guns, one from Uncle Ton, A Beugler paint pinstripping tool and a 12 foot magnetic pinstripping guide strip. A second box contains assorted disposable brushes, masking wraps and masking plugs.

A large assortment of spray bombs, full and virgin, of Rustoleum, Eastwood specialty paints, Bill Hirsh and Dupli-Color engine paints, wheel paint and primers, Miller tire paint. Lacquer thinner and paint prep. The viability of these old paint cans is in question but I couldn't bring myself to throw out full and unused cans yet. There are rectangular cardboard and foam board scraps for masking and mixing. There is an assortment of general purpose masking tape, automotive masking tape, Alvin drafting dots, duct tape and strapping tape, and coathanger wire hangers.

Next shelf down is the nuts and bolts shelf, a semi-organized assortment of mostly SAE hex bolts, nuts and washers, with some allen head, some metric fasteners, flat and lock washers in stainless steel, armorcoat and plated finishes. Also included is a stainless steel machine screw assortment, stainless steel tapping screw assortment, sheet metal screw assortment, 2 boxes of misc. screws and washers, 2 boxes of e-ring assortments, 3 boxes of master gunsmith screw kits - torx, allen and blade heads, 4 boxes of assorted springs and 2 boxes of cotter pin assortments.

The bottom shelf has a 5 gal can of automotive paint grade ;lacquer thinner, 2 five gal jerry cans and mounts - fuel and water, Milwaukee heavy-duty Sawzalls, 18" bending brake, 4 pc heavy-duty pry bar set, slide hammer kit, tool box containing 5 six inch buff wheels, 3 buff rouges, leather gauntlets and buff rake. There are also 19 qts of Valvoline VR1 20w-50 Racing Oil and a Purolator oil filter for the 302 Jimmy engine.

Beneath it all is an oil drain pan and 4 wheel chocks. That was thirsty work. Beer of the day is Free State Brewing Co's Ad Astra Amber Ale.

 

Designed and grew more of these mask thingy’s. They keep stress of the elastic bands on surgical masks off the ears. My wife is a nurse and shares them with the hospital staff. They are much appreciated so I will keep the 3d printer cranking. It is the least that i can besides wearing a mask myself.

 

Experimenting with fixing an old steering wheel using some HAMB techniques, JB weld and Bondo.
It was pretty broken up so I'm not out much if it doesnt work.

 

I have had good luck with a two parts epoxy called PC4. Sands out like bondo. Usually available at hardware stores like True Value.

 

Worked 10 and will for foreseeable future 6-7 days a week.

 

Didn't take long to apply the 3/4 gallon or red stain. New window sill and 4 light sash are next.

Thanks, I'm not getting out much but I will keep an eye out for it.
I have a couple of cracks that I haven't done yet so im open to trying it.
I thought I would fix this one and hot/cold cycle it to see if it fails, if not I will use whatever method works on the steering wheel I ultimately want to use.

 

I built an adjuster for an english wheel 14-15 yrs ago . Had collected up enough tubing several years ago. Decided to start building the frame. Bill

 

This thing followed me home. Has fenders, hood and custom wheels inside of the box.
