Hot Rods Street 'n Strip W powered T Coupe

Hey guys!!
Im pretty new around these parts, but thought id share my recent project. I picked up a decent T coupe and a 60s or 70s looking T bucket frame a couple weeks ago and have been picking up parts here and there. My plans are as follows:

Local high school hot rod built in 59 or 60 turned weekend strip car in 63.
I have a 59 Chevy 348 that will be running a few modifications. Newer, built heads, NOS Racer Brown roller cam, tripower, etc
Running 40 Ford wheels up front with Shinko white walls and 16' F1(?) wheels in the rear (soon to be reversed) with Towel City pie crusts.
Goin with a pistachio green on the body and black, white, dark green accents throughout.
I plan to chop it another 3" maybe 4" with about a 5" channel and a significant motor setback. And before you warn me about how cramped thats going to be, im 5'4".


Im still in the collecting parts phase, so bear with me. Ill update as much as i can.

 

Cool. Course, I'm kinda partial to 348's...

I would say not so low. I like where you had it mocked up in a previous pic. The real key is driveability.

The shop is about right for a street driven car in that era. What you aiming for is a pure racecar.

As long as it's a drag car only,not to be street driver,then your good with drag car BC1 look. Have fun'great start.

 

Throw out the Chinese dropped axle. Use the 34 axle.

 

I like your mock-up. The B/C 1 is a little too low.

 

I noticed that too, looks like a Lucky 7 axle to me. You have a ‘63 Illinois license plate hanging on the wall, where are you located?

 

Yup ^^^ if you are not careful your street strip car becomes a towed to the strip car.

@Nicholas Coe you will appreciate this. I remember when they put a speed bump in the high school parking lot. The kids were in the habit of lighting 'em up on their way out so they put a speed bump right in front of the gymnasium doors. One of the soch kids had a really sweet '46 chebby bomb that his daddy bought for him from the local latino paint shop. He got stuck on the speed bump. We got him off the bump without doing much damage to the car. he didn't drive it after that.

@Collin Benoit I like where you are going with the car by the way. Someone will give you grief about the motorcycle tires but I won't I remember bike tires on cars and they worked just fine.

 

I also like the way your mock up sits. The chop thats on it looks right to me too.

 

I like a T coupe for the height of the roof. I got an idea that the OPs legs and mine are about the same length. But I got a couple inches on him from the waist up.

I actually helped a guy chop a '27 to the point that the windshield was dollar bill length. We were the same height (tall?). he took me for a blast in it when he hit the road. he was comfortable, me not so muck but it looked cool.

 

Hey I too measure out at 5'4". My T coupe is chopped 7" and not channeled. You might end up with not enough room. I suggest you also give it a "z" just behind the firewall so that it just looks like it is channeled.

I like that mockup, it's easy to get carried away and end up with a car that's miserable to drive, doesn't matter how cool they look if all it does is sit in the garage because nobody will see it.
I have a couple overpowered cars that in all reality are a bit of a challenge to drive, sure they're fast and turn heads just from the exhaust note, but there's days that I just don't want to deal with climbing over roll bars watching temp gauges while you sit in traffic sweating your balls off, trying to see traffic lights etc etc

 

If it is a street and strip style car you want from that era the shop is about right as is.
The car you showed as your goal is just a racecar like i allready have said.
If you want the extreme look mock everything up and try the driverposition.
They relly getting cramped fast so its close to impossible to make a driveible car with thoose numbers you stated.
Go to youtube and look out the episode of rides when Burbank choppers build the Bad news.
They did a 10 inch chop with the motor normal to the body.
If you look in the end when he driving the car the head sticking out on the top of the roof and hes not exactley sitting with straight legs either.
On my build i put in temporary braces where i wanted the chop so i could plan my seatingposition from that.

 

Put everything together, including channel, seats, steering wheel, clutch/brake pedals, accelerator pedal, etc., except don't chop it yet. Get in it. Sit at normal driving position. Have someone measure from the top of your head to where the roof would be if it were there. Easy enough to do; just put a straight edge (2x4 will work just fine) across the top.

Then DON'T chop it any more than that measurement.

You might also sit in it and look out the windshield at where the horizon would be if you were out driving this thing. Then measure from that point at the windshield to the top of the windshield frame.

Then DON'T chop it any more than that measurement either.

Whatever you do, plan to buy a "stop light finder" anyway. I've been using one for the last 28 years and except for seeing stop lights I can see everything I need to see. You'll break your neck at stop lights if you don't have one.

Not much to update with. Still waiting on some things. Have a really great dropped and drilled Model A axle coming from dropped_steel. Got the front runners blasted, painted and tires mounted.
