I was 13, living in Natick Mass., learning about custom cars from those small car magazines. I think we were still doing the duck n cover dance.
Didn't get there until Feb. of '64. Split '62 between finishing Jr. year in California and starting Sr. year in Hawaii.
Over at my Aunt and Uncles house ...Monticello,Ky...playing with my cousins ...there's a cool 60 falcon sitting in the driveway..plain white 2 door post ....black wheels/tires ..traction bars....think it had v8 emblems on the frt fender ...it belonged to my cousins fiance...Jack Roush
I was sitting on the steps leading to our driveway. Across the street sat this kool coupe.yeah it was 62, I was 12 years old and I remember dreaming of this Coupe. Finally in May 2016 I got the opportunity to buy itit sees, the light of day after being put in hibernation in 2004. One of the best cars I’ve owned. And definitely fun to drive. And yes I’ll be 7-0 soon. Just a kid trapped in an older body and lovin every minute of it.
I had a 53 F100 with a warmed over 292 and a 33 five window project that ran off and on. I took a summer job with a small private school group that went from Socal to the World Fair in Seattle. I drove the 53 and hauled camping gear. The were four cars on the trip but the only one I remember was a 55 four door Chev wagon with a 6. It was my first trip to the PNW and we had a great time. I do remember that on Sunday all the stores were closed. Couldn't even get a carton of milk. I wish I could go back to those times and live on my 1.25 an hour job. Got through the summer and headed back to Utah. Come October I thought I was going to be drafted and fighting commies in Cuba. Thinking about that trip brings back some good memories of a simpler life.
I was a professional pigeon hunter, killin pigeons in the neighbors barns for 10 cents apiece.....Yup a paid pigeon assassin at 9 years old.
8th grade waiting to get my "sun down drivers license." 14 year olds could drive in SC until sundown. Madras shirts and no socks wegan loafers.! Freshman in high school. Folks still had the white over maroon 1953 Desoto 4-door, from new. Later they moved up to a light metallic green 63 Tempest slant 4, auto, also with 4 doors. That's how my exciting life of cars started. Later, I won a Yamaha 80cc dirt bike in one of the Revell-Testor's model car contests. My first wheels! No payments! Still slow!
