Been busy with another project,,,so I need to do some of those "round 2 it " jobs ,that never get done ,,
1st job was to get the flasher column unit working properly with the rubber cancelling wheel that runs on the steering wheel hub, after a couple of adjustments with the mount bracket and a bit of wire soldering,I got the unit to work ,an cancel after the left or right turn,,
This should eliminate driving for miles with the blinker flashing, IMG_8381.jpg Next job was the horn button in the steering wheel,,
The wire comes up thru the steering shaft,,I was either missing something or overlooking something, but there was no contact at the top of the shaft,,,

I came very close to putting a horn button under the dash bottom rail an taking the easy route,
I turn down a teflon block and made a contact in the block ,machined the o/d for the spring to centre over ,slight adjustment with a screw in the horn button an presto ,,a working steering wheel horn IMG_8367.jpg

Cool read. Ya made a nice job of the Coupe Willy.
Great to see you stuck with the A grille.
My brother-in-law recognised your mug reflection in the hubcap pic. Works for Hayden (Marley Flow)

Haven't posted here for awhile ,been busy on other projects,

There's a few random pics of the car,

I've only got a few more jobs to do to finish the car
    Upholster Door an kick panels
Fit fabric insert top to roof
    Buff up paint
Some body pinstripes and some subtle 60s style signage

The car has now passed the certification process to be driven on the New Zealand Roads, the process involves rigorous checking of fabrication, suspension modifications, brake and steering mods etc,
My cert plate is now attached to the car,and all I need is a "warrant of fitness",
the hoops and jumps we have to go through is quite stringent, but it could be worse .

New Zealand Low Volume Vehicle cert plate, etched info on the cars components used in the build process, this is attached to the body,
    IMG_8895.jpg

Got the louvred hood on and secured, used the latches that hold the lower hood side panels down, they work a treat at the rear of the hood to firewall IMG_8683.jpg

This pic is of the car when it was brought in USA,at a swapmeet prior to shipping to NZ IMG_7941.PNG

Couple of pics of tail lights, dash lights, park, fog and headlights IMG_8873.jpg

My hotrod club ,Sulphur City Rod And Custom Club emblem bolted to the license plate
,these emblems were made for club members way back in the early 70's,
I was very lucky to get this ,it belonged to my uncle who was in the club in the early 70s,it was on his 48 Ford Bonus
He has since passed away,so it is proudly displayed on my hotrod in recognition of him ,
    and the club IMG_8861.jpg

Picture in front of my workshop at home,my wife's 60 Ford Fairlane 500 also IMG_8685.jpg

    Grocery getter ,
Ive probably done 500 to 600 miles now,and really no problems,

    Thanks for your comments,
Yes I pondered for a while on the grill,a lot of people go with 32 grills,32 chassis etc,
I like a bit of Model A in my Model A,
,in my build I was trying to emplicate a 60s hotrod ,built by a young guy in his dads garage, with basic tools and what you had found at swap meets etc,
And I guess the extra money for a young guy on wages then couldn't warrant a 32 chassis etc,
he would of spent his hard earned bucks onto go fast parts an beer,(not much has changed),,

    Thanks for your comments,
Yes I'm pretty stoked how it has turned out,it drives and handles reasonably well, and its reasonably comfortable,
I wouldn't hesitate to take it on any long distance trip
And it still has that Hotrod feel to it,,,,,drum brakes, loud exhaust etc,

By Resene Paints in New Zealand, "Doeskin". It's a house paint color that they matched for me in lacquer. Chassis is Maderia (Cranberry).

You must be close to test drive time Bryan,,car does looks great,,,
there must be a huge number of Model A's hotrodded in NZ now,,,,
The Model A is a very popular chose nowadays because of the cost of a 32,, which of course is way out of reach for many people,,
Not knocking the 32 at all,but I'm really happy with my poor mans 32

    Yes,
My uncle was Murray Jenkins,he built a red 48 bonus in the mid seventies,327,mark 4
    zodiac gearbox,
My cousin Robert Jenkins(RIP)was also in Sulphur City club is the seventies,he built a two tone green 48 Bonus,272,,,,this pickup stayed in our club for many years passing thru a number of club members,
Both of these trucks were well built, and even by today's standards would have still been very cool ,

Both of them influenced my younger days of hotrodding,,and still do,,
Were you into Hotrods when you lived in Rotorua??

I kept the 35 wire wheel wheels off the car when I brought it,,I had a set of Firestone whitewall crossplys,7:50/16 and 6:00/16 in the garage as well,
It was a lazy day yesterday so bolted em on to see how it changed the appearance,,
Trouble is now I kinda like both styles,
Maybe run the WW's on one side an the black walls on the other side of the car,,,just kidding,
Anyways it's now given me a couple of options,,

We have had a few rainy days here,,,a bit of spare time in the shop,,
so I thought I would have a go at pinstriping my wheel rims,
I had a Beugler pinstriping wheel kit,so made a adjustable tool holder ,spun up a stub axle that could be held in the vice,,used a 37 hub and bearings, redrilled hub to suit 5 on 5 1/2 stud pattern, D44578A2-08B0-4E15-88F3-E9654366CE32.jpeg
it took a few test runs to get it running and paint flowing how I wanted BE8AFA94-8C50-4A56-BB23-E90EBB8CD53E.jpeg
Applied the two thin stripes first
Then fitted the widest wheel and centred it up between the other lines, AF6E72D1-9A50-4DFE-BB94-7B6F8AD6584A.jpeg
came out ok ,I guess you can’t beat hand and brush applied pinstriping ,,,
but for some one with a shaky hand ,no pinstriping skills what so ever,,, this was a good project in Respect of building the tool required and getting it to work, D01C9992-DB4C-4550-B0B3-29FC7F6497AC.jpeg
Pretty happy with the end result 3B46AAD4-98FF-4E95-B76D-3103E730E13D.jpeg DA8F899B-5C38-4F26-B5ED-95199888EBD3.jpeg

  21. Ingenious application of pinstriping. Very old school approach.
The blackwalls just seem more at home IMHO.
Love this little coupe project. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the picture of the Beugler striping tool. I bought one years ago and misplaced it somewhere. Now I know that I should look for a blue box.

They are a great tool if you are not competant and a steady hand,I admire guys who can pinstripe with brushes, it is a real art and it’s not something you can do without plenty of practice,,, bit like learning to play the drums
