Water pump on and painted. Some valve train assembly tonight. Evel Jake is back from Africa, so I'm calling in sick tomorrow and we're going to have this motor in the car TOMORROW! I've been working alot and churching alot. I'm going to try and keep this this going, but I got a new job and I'm sure I'll be even busier. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The month of February was dedicated to a pinewood derby build again. Won best paint and third place overall, but we tried candy lacquer and it was awful to work with. He was proud. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Might as well be. He looks dynamite in khaki and my wife is pretty sure I'd rather be married to him than her. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Welded up the firewall cracks and repainted. This car is such a piece of crap. It leans to one side. The frame is definitely bent. I suppose it's aptly named and my Creator feels the same about me. But, I got to spend time with Jake and George (my neighbor) and this hoss is in! Sorta. The motor leans (prolly from the bent chassis) and the trans hits the x member. But, hey..... that's hot rodding. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I was going to chrome the fan, but I popped it on there and really liked the way it looks. My wife says it clashes. I told her she was dumb. This fan came off the 57 chevy I had when we dated in high school. I decided to paint the tips, and got all my chrome pulleys assembled with the fuel pump. Chipping at it again, but I'm considered essential so I am working alot still. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It is pretty exciting to see her sitting there now with almost the correct stance. It's a little crooked, probably cuz the frame is bent. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
As a 75 year old married hot rodder I would advise against calling your wife dumb. Like your project.
We call each other names all the time Known her since 7th grade, so our relationship is something else. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Here's a daylight shot. I have hot rod work to do today, but on the wife's Tigerlily. Bittersweet Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Another one for fun. I'm back to grungy boring stuff like pulling the fuel tank. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Gas tank won't come out. Bolts, filler neck, fuel line all came out in less than an hour. The tank, though..... it's almost there, but won't drop out the frame rails. Any advice before I start prying tomorrow? Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Here is some advise from Ford Barn. There is also a thread about it on here too if you search. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21044
It's kinda what I figured, but before prying it or anything I thought there may be a trick. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Cool project, not sure how I missed it before. Tank, once the bolts are out, and the filler neck removed, slide it over to the filler neck/drivers side, and the pass side should drop out of the chassis, letting you slide the tank out and down, at least mine did. Front brakes, F100 and f250 are bolt ons. F100 you need the hubs as well (ask me how I found out) but f250 are 12" backing plates, so can use stock drums. I'm going f250 cos I'm using buick drums, but this design of brake has got to be way better than the stock stuff, and all parts are available - rock auto for all my bits. Loads of threads on here for both swaps. Front shocks, if you've not done this yet, some 40 deluxes came with telescopic shocks, so original front shock mounts are available, ive seen them on ebay. I was going to use a shackle mount kit, but really didnt like the shackle mount idea, so went for stock 40 hardware. I say 'some 40 deluxes', because i've had two, the first had tube shocks and a front sway bar, second had friction and no sway bar.., both stock original cars. I've added pics of two different types of stock top mount, the black ones are the design i'm currently using, the crustier ones are my first 40
I'm going to look into that 250 swap. Definitely want the old school f series brakes. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ha! This is what I get for going to parallels. Oh well. Easy out once the shackle comes off. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hahaha tell George Daniel says hello!!! I knew his neighbor had a 39 but didn’t know this was that car!! Right on. I am doing a 40 sedan now. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Some where to start. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-week-f2-f250-brakes-buick-drums.730159/ I believe RICH B on here can supply all you need if you want to go this route. He really helped me out.
Will do. I was pretty sure that if he hadn't been here already, the other neighbors woulda kicked me out! Were you over here the other day with him? Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
While looking into this swap, I'm getting confused. When you said "stock drums" did you mean the 40 drum? I am not interested in Buick drums on this car, and it seems the 250 drums would all be 6 lug. Not to mention I can't seem to find 52 f2 drums anywhere. I have a line on lincoln backing plates maybe, but we'll see. Even the 11 inch f1 drums would be better, but I'll keep researching. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
People go with the F250 and GM wagon rear shoes to have Bendix style 12" front brakes similar to the Lincolns. But the 12" F250 backing plates are getting just as hard to find as original Lincolns, not to mention the few year only GM shoes. If you have the $$$ go with the Lincolns (and use either old good used drums OR repo Lincolns....stay away from repo Ford drums) or F100 (53-56). You can still find the whole F100 set up for $100-$200 and brake parts are still easy to get for them.
I've been working sick... got my spreaders and brake lines all done. Also got a full set of 56 f2 drums to use on the front. Not sure how to do it. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Oh dang! Motor is also in final final. I've been off HAMB too long Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You've come a long way and the work looks good; keep on going. I am using the MT Lincoln style brakes on my 41 p/u . I was planning on keeping the lockheed brakes on the rear but I sold the whole rear to a friend and put together another banjo with late model axles and an open drive conversion. It was expensive but ...... It's only money.
You need the backing plates, not the drums. I would just go with the F100 front brakes. My '47 is planned with a Ford 9" like yours and F100 fronts, trust me they work great and all mine are un boosted. PM me if you want the f100 setup I know where you can get one pretty cheap. BTW, those Offy intakes aren't too good for low rpm use (open plenum inside). I have the 360 on my '41 and another here at home, I'm switching to a Edelbrock C3B with the oil fill out the pass side.
F1 stuff does just about bolt on, f2 stuff needs a bit of machining, but its all in that link I posted.
