Just completed my take on a oil bath type look but a little custom. Went with this colour for now as it ties in to the Rochester carb body colour. Was gonna go black but wasn’t quite sure. Can always squirt another colour on it down the road. Hand fabbed from a sheet of 18 gauge.

Hey guys found another “look” for dual quad applications when shopping at Summit. A few companies, Kluhsman, Keyser, Allstar, etc make carb covers out of metal and not plastic looks like a pair of dominator ones would work and being aluminum could be polished. May be a std 4 barrel top could be used for 2 barrel tops with 3-2’s... Just a thought...

  8. I always wanted an oil bath style filter. I rolled a 5'' ring to suit the carb and removed enough inside to fit an AP5 Valiant element. JW

Thanks man. Started with a sheet of 18 gauge and a picture in my head. A lot of fab work for sure. All hand done except the bead roller for the few bead lines

Your intake would look better and your engine would run much better if you were to block off the intake heat... Some guys use epoxy with gaskets that have steel block off plates in them..

I'm planning on using a 1958 Tri Power intake with the three hole base swapped out for a Quadrajet..

  18. Just made this from a fish cooker. Used the fry tray to hold the filters down. Cut the bottom out to shorten it and rolled the lid lip to fit tight.

  19. uh, did I tell you about my Planters Peanuts can with holes drilled everywhere, and a knitted pot holder stuffed inside?
I was about 14 or 15, and bought a well used Harley dirt track bike with no filter.
It needed something to keep the leaves and sticks out...
    good old fun days :)

I was having airflow issues with my Y block, choking it up and making it run rich using the little 4x2 filters so I contacted Dennis at O’Brien Truckers and ordered a set of these 4 1/2” Edmunds air cleaners.
They should flow lots of air and they have washable elements.

I’m not surprised at all that you went in a different direction.
You couldn’t see the direction you wanted to go anyway :D:D

I'd like to do something different, but at the moment I'm rolling around the idea of tri carbs. I can't bring myself to do it because the car runs awesome and I don't wanna go messing around right this moment for a few reasons. Right now I just wanna drive it....

  24. I change air cleaners routinely on my Austin just for the hell of it. Keeps it interesting. I see something and start thinking, man how could I use that. It’s not traditional I guess but it keeps me happy.:)
I found 4 of these and hope to get some brass/copper velocity stacks formed up to attach them too. Yeah I’m eccentric.

Vintage marine vents? Now you got me thinking. There's a bad ass bow vent on my Chris Craft That'd make a cool cover... s-l300.jpg

Once you get it running so good that you don't want to touch it, don't!! I've made that mistake and regretted it.. When you think of it, there are so many different combinations of settings that you might never find it again.. I would get the timing lite out and write everything down.. I've been documenting settings along with octane and temperature.. That way I have proof of what works and doesn't work..

  28. Saw this laying around @Clark shop.
It caught my eye for a topper for my current project.
Its a 1930s motor cover from an electric floor polisher...lol.
Bonus points, the peak on it matches the peak on the 34 pontiac grill shell I am going to use...

Couldn't find anything I liked as an air filter lid for my 1950 truck. Here's the wooden casting pattern I made.
needs to be smooth to "draw" from the sand mold.
Buffing the raw casting to a bit of a shine.

    Fitted to my truck:

BTW, on a previous occasion when I posted a pic of my truck's motor, some members said that it "wasn't traditional" being "80s billet" So, for the record, on this early SBC motor, most of the stuff like the stainless brackets and pulleys are actually 2005 billet, I know this, because the majority of these parts were machined in my workshop after I imported the truck; parts from or via the US cost a fortune by the time they arrive here in the UK.

e.g. here's the start of the alternator pulley that's in the photo above.
