My '57 post BelAir tudor sedan, about 1966 with borrowed ET's for a photo. I ran black wheels, black wall big and littles and baby moons the first year I built it. Next tire change I went to narrow whites:

...and here you also see the borrowed ET's on their owner's car. All mid-60's style.

Here's what a '59 dash looks like installed in my '57. I'm loosely recreating my '57 from 50 years ago. Some changes, still 427, still a stick shift, still looking for those '64 Impala bucket seats for it. IMG_1171.JPG

Does anybody recognize this 57? I picked this up at an estate auction near Sterling, Illinois. I've looked this car over very closely and there is no lettering under the primer than I can see. It has a heavy engine setback. Here's the history I can deduce from traces on the car. It was originally ran in gas class with a parallel leaf straight axle and approximately 10% engine setback. It was painted Grecian Gold in this configuration with gold painted steel slots on the back. It was then converted to a match racer with approximately 15% engine setback and what appears to be a blower and bug catcher stuffed into the windshield. The clip was replaced for this configuration and the car was painted bronze. Later it was red primered, then primered again in gray when the hole in the hood was filled. The last configuration ran dual quads and 4 speed. It has all lexan windows, Fiberglass clip, doors, trunk lid and aluminum interior. Rearend is 8 3/4 Chrysler.

EA477023-3491-4BFC-BEDC-D06C6B73DCFF.jpeg Always have loved five fives and five sevens, six’s ain’t bad either. “Bought “ a 57’ htop when I was 13 with a shot 283” for $100.00... till the jerk sold it to some other 17 year old the next day and bolted town with my paper route bucks... oh well fast forward to 1987 ; I traded a 56’ convert project for this ratty htop. With a 427 and M21 in place, I primered her and ripped around for about 10 years. Just might have to get it back out... here’s a real shitty pic of her :

Chevy57dude : There is a shitload of WD40 on that set. The other thing that darkens them even more is diesel fuel, an old dirt burner told me that's what they used in the 60's on em. My biggest problem is , a lack of playtime to keep more than one or two of my cobble jobs roadworthy at any time. Your seven sure is lookn' good ; that alone is enough to make me want to slam a few gears on mine again.

  14. Bowie - Couldn't help scrolling through your gallery. Impressive! Nice building.

image00000305.jpeg image00000541.jpeg image00000910.jpeg EPSON007.JPG Wow, brings back a ton of memories. Bought my first car , for $160, in 1967, she was a 2 door 57' Belair 6 cyl. glide. Within 3 mos. painted her blue in the driveway, and installed a 64' Corvette 327, 300 hp, and a 3 speed. Took her to Florida when I was in the Air Force, back in the garage when in Vietnam. Stayed there till 72. Got out and tore her down to the frame. Everything was restored, down to the bumper brackets. Turned her into a drag car, 331 Sbc, Nash magnesium 5 speed, 12 bolt with 4.88s. Ran high 10's. Won a ton of shows, detailed everything! Miss that old girl, we named her Thumper!

The guy I sold this one to took it back to it's original color, black. That's my dog Wheezer on the car with my wife.

This old thread is a trip! Funny to read this from the beginning, 11 years later and guys were talking back then about how this was the "new HAMB" and how everyone used to hate on 57 Chevys, I remember that! We thought we were a bunch of rebels and street rods and restored 57 Chevys were the establishment to be rebelled against!

I'll help clutter this up with a pic of my '57 that's been posted in a million other threads already, a former 4 door bought for $300 in 2005.

I came pretty close to doing conversion on a 4 door 55 I had laying around but I never got around to it. Still get tempted when I hear about them. The 55 is long gone.
