Technical What did you do today?

For me... it’s day three of an epic battle! Me against the leaves! It was nip and tuck for a while..... but after I fixed the Briggs &Stratten engine on my leaf vacuum...... oh! It’s a different story! I have victory in sight! I have scars, but I WILL win!

Went by my fellow club member Gary's house and picked up a 8" Mustang/ Maverick that is already set up for ladder bars, he was going to scrap it and I needed to save it for a future project for me or someone else. HRP

 

Taking a rest from cleaning , working on the '57, and posting some pictures that I have not posted.

 

Watched from behind my son delivering our, now his, 40 Chevrolet to an essential muffler shop in Huntington Beach. Automotive Excellence always sets a booth a our Elks Lodge Car Show and Chili Cookoff. I doubt these guys have ever seen Nicson cast iron exhaust or a Howard GMC intake. We need an exhaust system to start it in his neighborhood.

 

Not today...but last Friday. A co-worker was cleaning out the shop and getting rid of stuff. He had bought new fenders and tailgate for his 59 Apache project, so was going to scrap the old ones. In my mind, they were worth saving. He also hooked me up with a 350 long block including a set of power pack heads with TONS of work done on them. Considering running them on my pickup motor instead of the aluminum ones I was considering (which also came from the same co-worker). He changed to an LS motor so was tired of storing all the SBC parts.

 

Taking a hammer and hitting myself in the head, trying to gap a 65 Chevy truck before i spray paint!! It's hard to explain to your customers that they weren't perfect when they were new!

 

Looks like pretty good gaps at least from here especially knowing how those typically are.

More interior work. Finishing up the ABS material.

Made a trim piece for the header of the same ABS and installed a couple strips of Velcro so when I take the top off the car I can roll it up and stash it without it being stomped on in the back of the car by grandkids.

Well the guy that owns this truck is paralyzed from the waist down from a bulldozer accident, so mainly it'll sit in his garage.

 

So far today I paid the Insurance on the toy cars. Figuring on how to make some valve seat cutters for the Crosley while looking online for something buyable and waiting for heat to get up in garage so I can finish porting the block.

 

I have spent the day waiting. I had to order some hardware for my engine hoisting cradle ( wonder if that is what you call that thing?) I always wonder were the essential parts go when these things are not in use. I mean it's a simple shackle doe these critters grow legs and walk off? Soon as the parts come in I am hoping to finally get my Hemi over to the run stand.

I must give a shout out to McMaster-Carr the hardware company. This is the second time in 10 days I have placed a order with them. Much to my surprise while placing the order they showed on the reciept a delivery day of tomorrow before noon on the first order and by end of day today. The first order was here by 11:30 and as I am typing this response the second order just arrived and its 3:15. That is next day service on there own. I did not specify next day delivery they did that as there regular shipping time. WOW!!

 

Installed the new headers, intake gasket, thermostat, plugs, oil changes...time to wax and buff....

 

Wow. ("...wax and buff...") That is just a distant past and future thing for me.

The first picture didn't look right. Kind of off-balance or something. So I gave it the "worked on" look. (More since the second pic.)

 

Spent a little time on the 57 wagon... stuck some trim on, just doing inventory mainly

 

Painted my console for my O/T parts chaser S-10 pick up. Earlier I installed a pair of bucket seats and console from a small Oldsmobile (junkyard find) Since I had to cut down /mod the console to fit my lil truck the floor shift linkage stuck wayyy above the opening in the console. Filled the opening with body filler/sanded smooth/and sprayed with truck bed liner to get a "camera-case" texture.
Worked on the SB Ford/Edelbrock carb while the paint was drying on the console.

Been spending quarantine time working on the kids truck. Got the bed mounted today

The fun part was my oxygen regulator on the torch died, called and nobody had the rebuild kit in stock.
Good thing I keep an old inner tube around. A razor blade later we were back in business.

Picked up this pipe bender so I can make my own roll cage.

I spent the day removing the old insulation from the ceiling of my 56 Chevy Handyman wagon. It was a job I've been side stepping for a while, knowing it would be a messy job. I'm glad it's done, now onto painting the ceiling and installing insulation/ sound deadener.

 

I don't know.........I used that as an excuse to get it. LOL

 

I've got one like it. I've built motorcycle frames with it. The sizes on the dies are pipe sizes. I did some "relief" work on my dies with the grinder lol. But it did good with DOM tubing.

 

Did I say finish? Lol not even close! Made some progress, better than nothing I guess!

 

For what I paid (not much) I can do that. We will see.

 

Made up some rear floor panels for the coupe.

Not for anything I’d ever ride in. Great for flat spotting pipe.

 

Machine shop on CL selling these brand new about 600 lb. T slotted tables for only $25 and he had 36 of them. I think they will make a good welding table.
