I don't care for burgundy/maroon colors but that one almost gets a pass. Almost, because the rest is so fuckin, well, you know...

Painted the engine yesterday. Still a long ways to go and I'll need to collect some parts. I've been researching what headers to use. I have a vega steering box and dropped axle/reversed eye spring. Looking forward to cruising, it'll probably be mid to late summer before I can get to it. 20200329_140401~2.jpg

I would not use the Vega box in your 40. It is just a little too light for these front heavy cars. Use the 525 box, it is much heavier duty and not that much larger physically. You can use just about any of the tight tuck headers with your setup as well as rams horns. We just happen to have head pipes to fit the tight tucks in a 35-40.

  16. We didn't have a Vega box, so installed a 525 in 29 Essex.

That’s the way SBC’s should look in hooded hot rods.... A “tip of the hat” to you and your car.

As a side note I researched a 3.250” crank from SCAT today to possibly make a 327 out of a 350 I have and found they have a forged one. I also have a set of 58 cc chamber heads with 202 intakes and 185 cc runners and a set of 62cc heads with 210 runners. To give it the right sound I also have a 30-30 Duntov copy complete kit. Pistons are off the shelf and SCAT has some nice rods too. I’m sure I could assemble a nice performance engine out of what I have for less than $2K.
Just what I need another engine project.

  20. jimmy six, what C/R would you get with off the shelf 327 pistons and 58cc heads? Will the 30-30 cam, help with the compression pressure?

The problem is they are large journal only. I have pondered it though.

You can't really blame a guy for wanting to go as fast as possible, reliably and inexpensively.

I know it's not cutting edge, but it beats another "sky is falling" or "what's my plymouth worth" thread... I'm excited to see the difference in power and driveability.
