Customs 1958 Continental 2dr: Jay’s factory Custom survivor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jakespeed63, Mar 30, 2020.

  1. Love them or hate them, these Continentals, were truly low production, high powered/high priced, factory Customs. Jay does a fantastic job of explaining it all.
This example is especially cool, being a survivor, with all it’s original “strawberry” lacquer and gas guzzling Continental V-8. (he’s unsure of upholstery)
My hat’s off to Jay and his crew for preserving so much of automotive history.

My better half's Father has a 60 convertible, bought it in 1962. When I built our garage I had to make it
extra deep as she plans to inherit the car, at least that is what I told her.

  3. I always thought they were cool looking with those canted lights. Just way too big for me to ever want one.

Jay uses the whole road in his driving videos!
    Lanes? what lanes?
Still always an entertaining story from Jay.

My father in law used to own one and I was surprised to know it was unibody. I saw the underneath of it on his hoist one day and it was the most heavily built car I have ever seen. He owned almost every 58 -64 Ford ever made at one point or another and he said the gas that that Lincoln consumed was astounding.

In 1968 I attended automotive trade school half a day and regular high school the other half. Some one gave the automotive group a 1957 Lincoln convertible for whatever the two instructors cared to do with the vehicle. It was a running driving car in really decent condition. The top was deteriorated and hence the
discard by the owner. Even then I realized it was a unique vehicle and cool as could be. To me any way.
I tried to get it, but since it was a donation it then
became the property of the state owned trade school, and unobtainable. The guys would load up in the Lincoln and jet off to the local Po boy shop for 65 cent roast beefs at lunch time. It absorbed a lot of robust driving to say the least.
Eventually we cut the body off the chassis and made
a display /teaching aid with it. I really liked that car
and hated to see it dismantled.

Yea, it had a terrible exhaust leak of some kind. Jay doesn't really acknowledge it, but just says "we have a new exhaust system coming." I think he should have waited to do the review with the exhaust repaired.
