When I was a machinist I made A LOT of soft hammers for the shop guys, a chunk of steel round stock, a couple plastic ends and a Cherokee hickory handle, once in a while someone would bring one back complaining of the handle loosening up and want the handle replaced.
I would take it and give it a good whack on the end to seat it and drill a hole through it and install a 1/4" roll pin.

 

Wouldn't a couple of old steering column shafts do this for just about free? i.e., anything before the collapsible shafts came into being.

Got tired of my welding helmets kicking around the welding bench and decided I needed a place to hang them on the wall. Took an old towel rack that got tossed during a home reno a few yrs ago... rearranged the bars and blew a little black paint on it... voila!

A friend gave this to me. He made it back in the dark ages.

Slide "hammer" made with needle nose Vise Grip, Model A brake rod, and a stack of washers welded together.

b-t-w; the "date of manufacture" is April 18, 2006.

b-t-w (2); I wasn't there when he made it, but he told me that the weight was welded washers. Doesn't look like it to me, but I can't argue with the man who made it.

I need something similar on my old Delta drill press!

 

Nothing elaborate, just needed an extension on the jack, to get dummy case up in place while fitting it to crossmember and floor pan. Inexpensive floor jack I had around, and some 2 by 6. It's bolted to the jack, so it can't rock. Been a blessing on my arms!

We've all drop a part that landed in a hard to reach place so i came up with a way to retrieve parts that a magnet can't pick up. Yes its very simple looking but does a great job. The wax cover on Babybel cheese is very tacky and even works as it gets dirty i just put it on a piece of brass rod, i also use it (the wax) to hold trim in place when deciding where i want it and able to stand back and look without the distraction of strips of tape, and it wipes of with wax&grease remover. Just something that has worked well for me. BigO

 

Small punches i use to work on jewelry but also use to straighten stainless trim, masonry nails.

 

Known as a ring clamp I use one at home to hold small pieces when they need to be filed or polished, it has 2 leather pads to keep from scratching the piece your working on.

I love that with the ball bearing! It reminded me of the one I made to do 3/8 fuel line. It was a cheap side cutter....

It kinda worked but mostly didn’t. I remember it would piss me off more than anything

 

I just use an inverted flare, but only do partial.on tubes

There never seems to be anyone around when I need to load a car, that doesn't run, onto a trailer, or drag something around in the shop. So, I built this portable winch setup that uses a cheap, remote controlled Harbor Freight winch. Attach one end to a unmovable object and the other to what I want to move.

 

I have both large and small commercial units, but needed medium sized puller in a hurry. I welded a visegrip onto a rod, and drilled a 2" piece of solid round stock for use as the slider hammer. For the handle on the end I welded a nut on one end of a piece of 3/4 iron pipe.
It is ugly, but it works great.

Made a welding cart out of an old file cabinet. Added wheels and hooks/handles. Holds all I need, helmet, tools, gloves, etc.

Excellent; excellent. I've been scratching my head as to how to store my helmets in such a way that they don't get dust and grinding grit on/in them. Inside a file cabinet will be perfect. I think I'll make a welder cart with a 2 drawer file cabinet and replace the one I've had since I bought the welder (sometime in the early 90's). Thanx for the pix.

 

Now my friend that is one good idea for an old file cabinet.
