  5. Loveoftiki, do you have any idea where that Gulf station was located? I have the same image with a car that was local to me photoshopped into it.

  6. Sorry I don’t...I get bored at night...not a big TV guy...but love looking up pics that appeal to me...wish I could help

Not LoveofTiki, but I found a different view of the station on Flicker:
    upload_2020-3-18_3-16-29.jpeg
A comment on the page said that the station was at the northwest corner of Lafayette Avenue and Maitland Avenue in Hawthorne, NJ.

  9. Here's the photoshopped image I had. M&R was a local gas station in my home town but I'm pretty sure didn't look like that as it was on a much busier intersection and I think they were a Shell station. On top of that, the 57 pictured is a local drag car that was even a national record holder for a minute in the very early 70's. It was for sale on Racing Junk recently and brought back some memories. Thanks SR100 for identifying the location. I guess anything is possible with photoshop.

These pictures are of a service station that my grandfather and father opened in 1962 it was located a 6736 West Saanich Road , Victoria , British Columbia. My dad is the one leaning up against the 7/UP machine waiting for the ding- ding to go out and pump some gas. He was about 16 in this picture and turned wrenches until his 65th year.

I have lived in Victoria and worked in the car business all my life and the area those pictures were taken in look very familiar. But the address does not add up to the corner I am thinking of. Google earth just shows that address as a vacant lot right now.

  13. joemac, You got my curiosity going. I think the station may have been on the opposite corner where the current CO-OP station is now located. If you look at the old photos there is a sign across the street that is very reminiscent of the current Butchart Gardens sign across from the CO-OP.

Cool Springs, AZ. Quite a history here: old water station, then gas station on Route 66, burned down long ago, rebuilt as it stands now. 1649D451-26DE-45EB-864F-1299001127FA.jpeg

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Around 30 years ago I worked with the fellow, Bob Anderson, who owned at least the business and had left his son to run it. He was working as a service adviser at the local Chev, Olds, Cad dealership where I was the shop foreman. Bob and I got along really well.

The garage in the pictures I posted actually was at the location the current co-op is. It has changed so much over the years that I am not sure if the original building has been swallowed up by the larger building that is there now or if it was torn down .
The Maple self serve you can see across the street in the picture of my dad leaning on the 7-UP cooler was a Smitty’s pancake restaurant for years. My dads name was John Wilkinson and he passed in 2011 and I remember him mentioning the name Bob Anderson before.

  17. You never know who you'll bump into on the hamb. That's pretty neat that you guys have a connection through a service station from so long ago. I had a couple Uncle's who had service stations when I was small that my Dad used to take me to. Unbelievably both are still standing. One was a Phillips 66 that has now been expanded into a Mercedes repair shop so big it's unrecognizable and an American station that has an addition on it making it look quite different.

The gas station is gone, replaced with a boring block office building. The old house behind it is still there.

Went there on our Route 66 trip in 2009. The guy who now owns it and at that time lived in New York was a collector of music memoribilia especially 50, 60,70 era and had a huge collection including rare stuff. There was a caretaker there but I guess could be a target after hours.

That’s my Grandfather standing on the float waving.
