There´s one 327 in the Suburban and two more stashed beneath the transmissions behind it.

the 327 in my 56 Chevy is .040 over, so I think it´s acutally a 333 or so. Most of my 327s are LJ, they are more common over here than the SJ ones, because they were sold in Opel Diplomats. ford norman 016.jpg IMG_20170430_165218.jpg

  3. Denny, I thought L-79’s were 350 horsepower. Why does your air cleaner decal say 325? That is one gorgeous engine, and I bet it runs as sweet as it looks.

  8. Thanks Denny! Great article, I haven’t read Doug Marion in years. I always enjoyed his writing.

OK, I'll reluctantly admit I've had a couple of Chevys over the years:eek:. Wife's old Panel Deliv. had a 327...

  10. Sweet! Apparently I do get a 292 day once every four years! ;) You just made my day...although, I forgot to celebrate last month, so will have to wait 3 more years now. :(

I will be sure to tell my son with the 283 that his day is tomorrow. :D

Filthy 1968 over the counter L79. It was under a brake lathe table for 15 years with no heads on it! Was FULL of metal! I put it back together in 2008, it still rips. 20170820_181246.jpg

  17. LONG LIVE 327's

I've had numerous 327's over nearly 5 decades and think it's the best 1st gen SBC ever made, especially in a lightweight car. My 2nd car in 1973 @ 18yo was a 64 Chevelle with an L76 I pulled from a wrecked Vette. Added bigger Isky cam, tunnel ram & 2 small Holleys. Went drag racing and had some of the best times of my life.

My current hot rod, a '58 Vette has a 1967 .040 over with forged internals. 1970 LT1 "186" heads and cam. Edelbrock C3B and a 650 Holley DP. It runs like a scalded dog. Built in 1974 and never been apart except for an intake swap.

Also have a 327CE that came in a 62 Vette I bought in 1976. Put an original 340 hp in it and pulled the CE. It's been in several cars since 1977. Put some bearings and an L79 cam in it 1994. Still in a 2WD S10 Blazer I built 20 years ago with a Muncie C/R and 4:10 gears It can scare you.

There's a NOS 327 short block under the bench I've had 40 years. Gonna make a 302 when I retire in a few months. Already have the forged reciprocating assembly, 461X heads and Winters intake. Just need time.
