Technical What did you do today?

We use a dehumidifier here, once in a while, as it's not always humid. Ceiling is low, so an old home unit is working fine for me. The idea of ceiling fan is a good one; have mine on all the time, although mostly to push the warm air from the unit heater down to the cold slab.

Serviced my wife’s non HAMB friendly car. Oil change, filter, and wash. Last was a year ago and she drove 2400 miles. The engine maintenance oil log said it had 70% life left but a year is all I’ll go. 5-20 Mobil 1 and a Wix filter.

 

Going 12 volt. Altinator and tail lights installed.

 

Hadn't fired up the Lark in awhile, And figured my clutch foot was healed enough for a short test drive. Drove up to the test spot and wailed on it a couple of times...That solid cam 327 sounds bitchin at 7000 rpm...made me forget about all the other bullshit for a minute

 

Yesterday I sheltered-in-place under a friend's project car.

I completely rebuilt the front suspension, installed all new brakes, and I mean everything but the pedal assembly, bent up all new hard lines, and got about 25% done with the rear suspension.

Today, I will finish the rear. After that I will inventory expected components and order a wiring harness. Then I will make templates for the few patch panels it needs. Those will need to wait until the weekend, when I can make more noise. Thankfully, all but the rear roll pan are inside or floor.

 

Knocked some 1930 DeSoto rim bolts out of some old rims for a guy who is restoring a 1930 DeSoto.

Replaced the turbo drain tube on my OT , Power Wagon , spring cleaning in the garage . Putting away and tossing junk collected on top of my work bench for 4 years . And last but not lease fixed a free plasma cutter , returned it to the living today .

 

I used a dehumidifier in my shop for a couple of summers, to keep the floor from "sweating" and bare metal from rusting. It did also make me feel cooler on those muggy days, too. Then my boss asked me why, and when I told him my reasons, he suggested to use a smaller window A/C unit. He claimed they use the same electricity, and the dehumidifier put the heat back into the shop instead of removing it. I scored a free 7000 BTU window unit, and he was spot-on. My electric bill didn't change, and it makes it a lot nicer on the 80-90 degree part of summer. I was stationed in Florida for four years, and if I was to live there again, A/C in the shop would be on the top of my list.

 

We left a note on the door of the shop with our home phone number for emergency's and Brenda got a call , since we were going to the shop we would drive by the dump so I loaded up several trash bags and put them in the back of the wagon, guy at the dump couldn't believe I had trash in the car. it's not like I'm hauling manure and the trash is dry.

We drove on to the shop and saw a nice Chevy II pass us in the on coming lane as we pulled into our parking lot, Brenda made the arrangements for the funeral and we delivered the flowers in the mortuary, we then went to the bank, since we were close I hit the drive thru at Wendy's for lunch and we dined on the tailgate in the park, the weather has taken a turn for the better,the sun was shinning and we ran out a half a tank of gas driving aimlessly around the country.

We stopped by the grocery store looking for a couple of extra rolls of striking paper on the way back home and fortunately they were not sold out.

Brenda & I had a great day with each other, the way everyone's lives have been turned upside down just getting out and about really was a blast!

We were not the only ones out and enjoying our old car, we also saw a couple in a 40 Chevy 4 door sedan on our way home. HRP

I finished taking the stainless side trim off of my '55 Chevy Belair. There is a shit load of stainless on a BelAir so next time I'm building a DelRay! The glass man is coming tomorrow to replace all the glass except the back window. The front had wiper scrapes and multiple rock chips.

The side trim has had its share of parking lot dings but that is the price one pays to drive the car. All in all it all needed repair/shining and Louie, the stainless expert, is about done with the part that goes around the windows.

After that the old car needs a visit to the upholstery folks. I had to lower part of the headliner to get to some screws and I know better than to try that by myself. And maybe I'll get lazy and let them put the rest of the interior back.

Think of it as a little face lift for the old girl. I think she will appreciate it. She has been good to me so it is no problem being good to her.

 

Still chasing the voodo wiring issue on the OT square body.....and moved over to the Studie for some loving on it...slowly but Shirley (RIP) will make progress !

 

What I did today ? Let's see I set the ride height, took out the too wide Ford 8". I set the wheels and tires under the fenders to measure the width to have my Olds/Pont housing narrowed. A little bit each day.

 

Spent all after noon working on a Briggs carburetor! Finally figured it out! Then worked on a 1953 model Ford NAA carb. Nice day, or it turned out to be one! Lol

March 26th 2020 Started block sanding the Eastwood Contour aluminum reinforced filler with 36 grit paper. It's tedjus work. I just have to keep slogging away at it. I made it worse by using too much hardener in my first batch and then waiting two days to start sanding it down. Beer of the day was Hamburg Brewing Company's Small Town Belgian Style Saison Ale.

 

Well, I really fucked up. I hung a few LED shop lights up to get back on my '32 Dodge PU.

My gawd, now I can see what a mess I have to clear to really get after it.

Anyone recall watching "Married with children"? Al got glasses, was able to see what his life looked like around him...he finally tossed/trashed the glasses...he went back to simpler times...

New headers, Schoenfeld fenderwell, with the collector tubes shortened , cut- outs added and some finned aluminum block off caps.

 

Nothing today, but yesterday it was 63 here, so out came the 52 Vic...carb/timing tune and down the road we went. Chased in by rain. Wonder of listen'n to a flathead wound up good is helpful in preventing......"the virus".....
