Just picked up another set of headlights for my project and not sure of the year. They have no reflector, lens or trim ring and I will need to source those. However, I don’t know where I ought to start to find those. Can anyone help? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I believe 35 and 36 Fords used the same headlight body but the 36 used a shorter mounting bolt. 36 also used a different lens that protruded out more which makes the 36 headlight look much larger than the 35.
They are 36 Ford with what looks like a sealed beam conversion. You can fit 36 reflectors, trim rings , and lenses or 35 trim rings, reflectors , and lenses on them if you prefer the less convex lens. The bucket itself is the same for 35 and 36 and also 38-39 truck , with the mounting stud length being the difference. The 35 bucket, and also 38-39 truck used a mounting stud that is about 1 1/2”-2” longer. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Thanks guys for this. Wasn’t entirely sure on the year. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
36 cab you are right, it was the lens not the bucket... '40 and '41 one ton trucks used leftover buckets and used a thicker, F to B bezel ...maybe to hide the sealed beam's retainer ring ? the thicker bezel will hide the sealed beam conversions on '35-'36 cars, maybe '35-'39 trucks ...
Here are the headlight parts. Not inexpensive. https://www.bobdrake.com/3536headlights I highly recommend the Drake reengineered halogen reflectors if you intend to actually drive your rod. Phil
I have used Drake's new reflectors on a set of 33-34 commercial lights and more recently on 35-37 commercial lights. I find them to be effective at today's driving speeds. In both installs I used a flat space bit to make a hole for the turn signal bulb in the reflector. I didn't like the Amber bulb behind the lens, so I found an 1157 Amber bulb on the Internet that has a chrome like coating, like a state trooper's sunglasses. They don't show unless illuminated. Hope this helps. Phil
1940 & 1941 big trucks used similar headlight buckets. However, the headlight rims are year specific. If you don't believe it, try the different headlight rims and you will see.it.
