Technical Name that truck make.

This might be really stupid, but I can't place the make and model of this truck. I was just looking around and found this truck, not looking to buy, just want to know. Looks familiar but can't place it.

 

1961 or so International.

 

That's it 59-60 International B series. I was looking at weirder defunct manufactures.

61 Cornbinder had one just like this. Hands down the toughest vehicle I ever owned.

Back in the 70's I worked in an International Harvester dealership (both farm equipment and trucks), one of the owners and I were talking one day and he said "did you know that Harvester and Peterbuilt were going to go together and build trucks?" First I'd heard of it he responded "they are going to call them Peterbinders" If you "don't get it", IH trucks were called "binders" because in the beginning that was one of their first products in the ag market.

He's been dead quite a few years and the dealership closed ten or fifteen years after I left it. The building now houses the Atlantic Community School District bus system.

 

We call them 13 letter fertilizer spreaders.

 

1959-early 1961 B series International

 

A friend had a school bus yellow, ex-City of Athens '59 3/4 ton we bombed around in all through 1979. Indestuctible, it was.

 

It's from a ad on OC Craigslist, but the yard is in Kansas if I remember correctly.

Whats a " Restricted" plate in Alberta? Is that similar to a "historical vehicle" plate? IE, low mileage, to/from parades and events only.

 

I’m with you on heavy duty , stuff . If you drove one as an adult and maintained it , life was unlimited . The power company I worked for , our first field maintenance trucks were Loadbinders , they had welder , air compressor , all installed in a covered utility bed . Loaded to the gills with pipeline fittings and materials . We had one that was Diesel powered , damn thing had a stack straight up behind the passenger door between the cab and bed that was OEM installed . These things took a beating for years and years , start them in the morning and ran all day for 12 - 16 hrs daily never shutting them down , welder and / or compressor running all day also . They would just not give up . As far being the most heavy duty truck ever built , I wold say yes for their time x 10 . The next era heavy duty was the 1st Generation Dodge CTD , they were the best of the modern day warriors . I have one and it’s a beast , all truck no Mom’s SUV here ! Rust was the worse problem with either of these old saints .

 

Yep...I've heard " 13 letter shit spreader" ....guess they built" manure spreaders" ....I gotta agree that they were TOUGH and sure weren't afraid of outside the box styling ,!!

 

And they never met a gas station that they didn't like!
