  11. Ok here is the Teen Challenge panel that I was asked by Von Hot Rod to make for the Benedict Castle Concourse benefit raffle. This show has been postponed but Lord willing will still be happening after this clears up. Enjoy and as always I’m accepting custom orders. Hello,
Of all styles of a 32 Ford model, we had once thought it was unreachable to buy and build. But with the advent of different chassis and suspension modifications, as well as workable bodies and hoods, it was possible to build something for being competitive in the street roadster class back in those early 1959-63 days. The rules were set up for most hot rodders to just empty the trunks, change tires and go racing with a street legal coupe/sedan or roadster.

In the case of a fenderless roadster being legal for the street, it was not, back then in our area of So Cal. So, smooth Harley fenders would cover the front skinny tires and bolt on rear fenders would do the same for the rear tires. Nothing was going to cover the wide slicks, but at least, there was a fender in the vicinity. All legal within the drag racing rules at the time. (CHP overlooked a lot of wide tires, back then…) The exhaust would have removable liners or baffles to keep it sound legal. When necessary, those baffles would be taken out and now, it was straight through exhaust. A simple roll bar could be attached to the frame in the bed area with an attachment to remove it when not needed.

Recently, we did see a 1932 roadster pickup and realized that two big teenagers/20 somethings would not fit in the stock configuration, so a slight extension would make it “roomier” on those local road trips and even at the drags. The pickup bed would also be shortened to give the proportions a better look with the extended cab.

Now, that is a street roadster. But, someone would probably protest the disc brakes on the front and we would have to race in the same class as the top modified roadsters, which would not be fun at all. Speed Sport, Hedrich/McClure, Harrell Engines, Cedarquist, Burkhardt, Tony Nancy, Tony Waters…that would not have been nice, at all!!!

Simply put, a dual purpose street roadster pickup that is fast and good looking can have it all…
